After having a baby how many of us were given contraceptive advice?
I did not recieve any at all. What with that and going to a Catholic school where the only education I had was in biology of the 9 months pregancy cycle when I was 12 did I miss out?
where did anyone else get all this knowledge from about different types of contraception
You should get contraceptive advice from the MW at the hospital or from your GP at your 6 week check.
They are loads of options for larger ladies - just make an appointment at your GP or family planning clinic.A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

There's a comprehensive guide to the different methods on the FPA website, you can download the PDF here

Make an appointment (or you may be able to walk in depending on your area) to see the nurse at your Family Planning clinic. There are many more options other than combined pill (the sort you don't want) or condoms. She will go over them all and discuss it with you and you can ask anything - they have see and heard it all;) She will talk about your relationship if you are willing - that is part of a Family Planning nurse remit. It does sound like there are some issues.
There is a non-latex condom if rubber is not your thing, but they aren't that popular. There also flavoured ones that don't smell of rubber.
If you can't find the number, either ring your surgery or local hospital and ask. They will know.
Read the information posted by pboae and you may go in armed with quesions:D:D0 -
Definitely go to family planning. they are the experts and are really helpful. In my area it's drop in and you don't need an appointment.0

I agree with whoever asked about your blood pressure, OP. If the pill affected you 4st lighter it will now & from my experience of being overweight, they won't give me the pill at all, not the combined pill anyway. I think there may be a different type (Mini pill?) you could try.
I recommend the Depo Provera injections, you have one about every 11 weeks & afaik it's the most reliable form of contraception & you probably wouldn't have periopds on it either.
The only problem with that is if you have a needle phobia or if you want more children soon as it can take up to 12-18 months for periods to return after coming off of it. It's a great contraceptive though, i've been on it for over 10 years & a bone density scan recently shows no damage to my bones through using it!0 -

Check out cerezette - pill used for larger ladies. Also have you thought about an iud?
this was going to be my suggestion - i'm on it because i'm deemed to much of a risk to be on the combined pill, and i love it! mainly because it turned my once a month week long hell into one day of no hassle at all!0 -
I'm with Choccy Buttons and Broughy, ask about Cerazette, its FAB!0

I know the depo provera contraceptive isn't for everyone but I have been on it about 6 years. Had irregular bleeding for a couple of years but now only get occasional spotting. I am 42 so had a bone density scan too which came out fine. I'm hoping to stay on the depo for quite some time and the nurse said so long as the next bone density scan comes back ok (think they do it again in 5 years) then I can stay on it. I'm hoping that by the time menopause comes round I won't notice it, lol. It's the best thing I have ever used as pills, coils make me bleed irregularly and heavily.
Tigerlily, can I ask how old you are and how long they said you can be on depo for?
OP, please make an appointment with your Family Planning Clinic. They really do know their stuff.0 -
I have rung up and made an appointment with the family planning clinic. Got this Friday.
Will they just disguss the options or are they trained to fit contraceptive devices in too and provide presciptions? Will I need a few appointments and then be transferred to the doctors or will I come out on Friday with an alternative to condoms there and then?
Never been to one before0
