The Pill

I'm 24 years old, but weigh 20 stones. I have been with partner for 7 years and have a 3 year old. I used to be on the Pill, but they took it off me about 5 years ago when I weighed about 16 stones due to high blood pressure. Do you think I could ask for it again r do you think I've got no chance? My sex life is virtually non - existent due to the fact that we can't stand the condom. He wants sex 2 or 3 times a night every night still, but now I've resorted to sleeping in the spare room cos I can't stand his demands.

go and see, as long as your high blood pressure has gone down and you take the required dose for your weight then it shouldnt be a problem. have you considered the implant, ive got that in and I weigh a little more than you and have the implant in for 18months before having to have it changed due to my weight.

I've never considered anything but the pill or condom.
Won't doctor just say use the condom and thats it, end of story?
What exactly is the implant. Do I have to go into hospital to have it put in?0 -
Try asking about the Mirena coil. It can be fitted either by your GP or at a family planning clinic. It is likely to make you bleed more for a while, but after a few months, then periods become very light.0

I would suggest finding out where your local family planning clinic is and going there. I personally found them to be far more helpful than my general GP. They will go through every possible method with you and help decide which is best. There are quite a lot of alternatives to the pill which I know I have been offered in the past - mirena coil, depo, implant, etc
this website has some explanations of th various methods

After having a baby how many of us were given contraceptive advice?
I did not recieve any at all. What with that and going to a Catholic school where the only education I had was in biology of the 9 months pregancy cycle when I was 12 did I miss out?
where did anyone else get all this knowledge from about different types of contraception0 -
Mainly from family planning in my case - I was put on the mini pill for a while due to migraines and it really disagreed with me. I wanted to go back to old pill which wasn't to blame, but they were determined to try everything and anything else! I have a major needle phobia though so that was and to most of their suggestions.
I did get some at school, but it only really covered condoms and the need to use contraception, and I left school 6 years ago.0 -
I wouldn't have thought they would let you go on the pill now, realistically.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Well, this will be the same whether you're on the Pill or not, won't it?
You were taken off the Pill when you weighed 16 stones and had high blood-pressure. You now weigh 20 stones and want to go back on it again.
Do you yourself think this is a good idea, leaving aside the argument about your sex-life? It's your life, not your sex-life, which is important, with a 3-year old child.
What are you doing at present to control your blood-pressure and get it back to near-normal levels? That's what you should really be concerned about.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I learnt from being curious basically! Internet, chatting with friends, FPC to get leaflets etc! As it is my body i like to know what i am putting in it chemically etc and all the pros and cons.
Have a look on line at diffrent contraceptive options.0
