Hi everyone!
I'm so glad i'm not dieting. I've scoffed 3 lollipops today. 2 of them were swizzels ones that i can never resist and now i'm eating a galaxy choc bar
Sarah - well done with Egg. You've hit them where it hurts, the cheeky barstewards.
I bought my son some trainers today - they were a bargain! I used my debit card to pay. After entering my pin, the machine said the store needed to use the card reader and i had to sign for it. I've checked my bank account since and the same 2 payments are pending as showing. It looks like i'm going to have reclaim a payment back now - what a pain!
Anyhoo....

Hi Keza I am just about to go the PPI reclaim route as well, my PPI covers about 80% of my debt. Scary thing is all 3 claims are my creditors that I am trying to organise a DMP with, so not sure how they will react

Yes Paul that is correct.
There were a lot of one offs last year OH get a cheque for writing his car off which enabled us to a clear a credit card and started us being able to balance transfer so that now they are all 0%, an inheritance of 5K, selling a folding caravan just under 3K and I got some extra work which also paid travel expenses which was a one off.
This next year is going to be a lot tougher.

MMMM Macgirl I could just eat a nice tub of luxury ice cream... my favourite ben and jerrys at the minute is Caramel Chew Chew, beautiful. Must resist tho as I managed to go swimming through the tiredness of
getting 4 hours sleep and swim for 40 minutes solid (well almost).
Might go and have a bit of a nap now though as I'm shattered!

I know - I love 'em all! Vanilla Toffee Crunch is my fav tho
After tomorrow, I'm a sugar free zone. I read Stephen Fry gave up bread, potatoes and sugar to shed the flobbage, so that's me from tomorrow!
Hopefully Silaqui, I'll be following in yours and Danko's footsteps! Thanks for the kind words of support Danko, I'm dreading it!Paulgonnabedebtfree wrote: »Thanks for the heads up DT.
I have to remember that this is all relative.
In recent years, I have manage the odd month when my debt has reduced - not that I had ever bothered keeping an accurate record of it all. It just looked a ghastly mess that I was unable to face up to.
This forum gave me the courage to list all my debts on a spreadsheet and adjust the totals as appropriate - a brief increase in debt when a CC bill comes in (interest) and a reduction when a payment gets made. Until late last year, I didn't even know how much I owed. Even when I first calculated it, initially I totally overlooked one of the CCs of about 2 grand. If I had made a guess at how much I owed, I would have estimated it about 5 - 7 grand less than the actual amount.
Now, I know how much I owe to the last penny piece. Sometimes I wish I didn't but the first step in dealing with debt is to know how much it is, who is owed what, and how much interest each lender is charging. I will pay something every single day - even if it means doing a couple of months paying a penny a day. It might not get myy debt down by much but at least it will pee off the lenders.
This is the first time for some years that my debt level has reduced month on month.
Having said all that, there is nothing wrong with an occasional treat. I think that, apart from chocolate, this is the first real treat I've allowed myself for a while.
I still have my target of being free from unsecured debt by the time the London Olympics starts.
Thanks for this inspiring post Paul :T - really hope you get there for 2012.
What you said probably speaks for most of us on here. I certainly guesstimated my debts to be much lower, but being on here makes me determined to pay it off and it is satisfying to see it gradually going down (sadly up again in my case:o).
And you're right - the odd treat keeps you going.
Enjoy your film - you deserve it!0 -

I'm sure that those lump sums were a very big help indeed. And there I was thinking that you and OH must be big earners. Even so though, what you paid off was still a good achievement. Although I want to pay off 47 grand in just over three years, realistically, if I manage to reduce my debt by 10 grand a year, I will regard that as a very good achievement. I have no big items that I can sell. Perhaps several second hand work tools that I may just get £500 for plus a wide assortment of other unused items which are suitable for a boot sale (might get £100 - £150 for them). I just have to rely more and more on getting lots of work done and slashing my spending as far as possible. I reckon there is still room to increase my business turnover by 10 - 15 grand a year. The problem I have is that it's hard to find the time and energy to canvass more work when I'm already working pretty hard. I could employ a canvasser to bump ity up another £500 a month . The trouble is that I prefer to target my own work.
