Virgin raised BB charge to £20

  • I'm getting really fed up of VM. Seems to be an increase every time I get a bill, and I'm not getting anything better! (really don't need 10mb BB!)

I like the on-demand features, but I could get a sky+ box with max broadband and free evening & weekend calls for £15 a month less than what I'm paying for VM at the moment. Besides, most on demand stuff is available online now anyway.

I don't like being taken for granted, and last time I called up and asked for a better deal they spoke to me really snottily, and the guy basically said "we're not improving your deal cause we know you'd have to pay for the BT landline if you moved to Sky" Grrr!!

Plus, the BB is not really all that good, I get disconnected so often, and when you try to phone up to sort it out it's just beyond painful. And if it happens to go off on a bank holiday (which it invariably does) they refuse to accept the problem is with their systems until the following day, presumably in order to avoid paying BH rates to engineers!!

I think they've taken me for granted long enough and it's time for me to vote with my feet and stop whinging!

£20 BB deal is great, where else can you get 10MB for £20 ?

The lucky o2 mobile subscribers where exchanges are LLU'd......in context how much % of UK exchanges is that ?

Tell them Sky is cheaper.... & you are able to claim BT Basic @ £5 a month ;)

As for BB, are you a ex NTL ?, Scotland had Telewest & the BB system
was/is far superior to all the NTL bought out smaller companies.

The 10MB BB should be more stable, 2MB is a discontinued package - expect support to get worse than now, VM are trying to get people of it & pay a little more than current 2MB !

I got dad L tv & M BB for £20 for life when Sky1 dropped saving of £10 on the old Telewest plan he was paying, he got a free upgrade to 10 MB

    L tv & L BB for £20 for life ;) bargain !!!, its now £31.......

  • Thanks Diamonds - just called Virgin Media and the only thing they offered me was the advice that I need to give them 30 days notice! :D Oh well, I tried! I'm quite fiesty too, but no luck this time!

Sky I can get 2 packages TV + BB + Phone line with free evening and weekend calls for £27.50 a month...can upgrade to 8MB BB for an extra £5 if needed...much better than the £52 VM is costing me.

Been with them for 5 years, it's been a turbulent relationship but now it's time to say goodbye I'm afraid!! :'(:rotfl:
  • Oh and I think we were Telewest, but NTL before that?? Not sure! But definitely crappy connection, so NTL by the sound of it!

i noticed my bb bill steadily increasinging by a few pounds since jan 09. last month it was £19. i rang VM a few days ago and queried it. They told me my bills would be going up to £20 because i would be getting 10MB. I said I wasn't interested in 10MB. Was put through retentions and negotiated £10 for 6 months for the 2MB (will ring them up again in 6 months). Ive been ringing VM up now for a few years to negotiate this £10 deal. Sometimes they give me 6 months, sometimes 1 year-usually 6 months.

I'm stuck with VM as do not have and want landline.

I have been quite happy with 2Mbs as well for the last 3 years.

However, on 26 May I got notification that my bill would increase. So I naturally phoned them again and negotiated to stick with 2Mbs. What they OMITTED to tell me was that the downloads would be choked to 200MB using throttling (Capping, Shaping or sometimes called Traffic Management).

After a few days I started to notice a sluggish performance and then spent 3 days calling Tech support to find out why my bandwidth had plummeted to 0.5Mbs at certain times (every day) from 2Mbs.

Eventually found out that they were reluctant to permit customers staying with 2Mbs but was possible. But they want everybody over to 10Mbs (with the price hike).

I explained I was not a high user - they agreed- but the traffic management policy would be adopted for anybody that remains on 2Mbps. I do not down load much, typically “updates” or watch videos (1 hour per month perhaps via watch again such as BBC iplayer) but the "New" and secret 2Mbps is only for very very light browsing and downloading emails - be warned!
It amounts to about 6Gb per month inside hours 9am to 21:00.

I am now looking to leave, which is a shame but jumping from £10 to £20 per month for bandwidth I do not need is too much of a hike.
  • I think they're going to be losing a lot of people by doing this - forcing people to either pay more for a service they clearly don't want or need, or have internet connection that they can barely use.

Might get them short-term gain but hardly does much for customer loyalty, does it?

…I just begrudge paying £22/mth for less than 1mb when I could get 10mb through cable for half the price…
At £20 it’s NOT half the price.

Large TV, M phone and well now its a 10mb internet line. Im thinking of upgrading to the XL TV and get the v+ box as it works out only about £3 or £4 more than im paying now.
It’s all relative I suppose. I can’t afford to keep throwing money at it. In my humble opinion Virgin have cocked this up big time by saying two months ago ‘hey, have a free upgrade!’ and then not actually doing it. Then, hey presto, we get a swingeing price increase, and guess what, we STILL don’t have the upgrade. This is not something for nothing, it’s nothing for something.

Yup. Me too! They really are taking the mickey of late.

Like you, I’ve had it with them. I see no point even mentioning customer loyalty.

They are just playing the numbers game with customers. How many have we gained this month, and how many have we lost? They really do not give a damn about customers.

    Disconnections here I come!
