  • Hi Hopelessly

We applied for a cashminder with the co-op over the phone and it was very clear and simple, the lady did ask if were in financial bother and I told her we were on a DMP and that was it sorted, took about 5 days for stuff to come through and you've got pretty good online banking as well. One thing I have definitely learned through all this financial trauma is that banks don't ever ever recognise the word loyal, the use paying instead. So never ever rely on a bank coming to your rescue, if they look as if they are, its because there is money in it for them. If you stick with these things in mind, it gets easier. You've realised you've got a problems and are on the road to fixing it, well done.

Thanks PDD. You may have gathered I was rather hoping the consolidation would mean I didn't need to take DMP route. I live alone and dreading anyone 'coming around'. It's really useful to know that the co-op were ok about DMP, that certainly eases some of the tension for me.

Have gone ahead and submitted application to CCCS for DMP. Assuming interest freeze (yeah right) DFD Nov / Dec 2013. Wishing I was 6 months down the line and not in this emotional frazzle but hey ho it could be worse I guess.

Have been reading posts here and helps me gather some strength when I dissolve into bits. Will no doubt have endless questions.

    Next steps to

Open account - keeping fingers crossed for swift transfer. Failing that hope by cancelling other dd but keeping priority and my own banks there will get me over the next month.

    Keep spending diary.

    Send letters off to creditors.

Try to hold onto what sanity is left!

  • Hi Hopelessly

We had 22 creditors (I know a record!) and of those, 20 have stopped interest completely, Lloyds have reduced and RBS want to terminate (sounds drastic) before they stop interest, and this should be mid May. So there is actually hope, we're 3 months in and have had a minimum number of phone calls, no one has been awful, awfully stupid on occasion. It is doable, keep us posted.

  • Thank you for sharing that PDD. I hope it doesn't trivalise matters to say you have made good going to get 20/22 onboard. Pleased for you that you have done, hope that brings some comfort. There doesn't seem to be any rythm nor reason as to when they will and wont from the posts I have read - or am I missing something?. any advice very gratefully received.

My fingers are going to be very tighly crossed that's for sure. Would be a big beam of light at the end of the dark tunnel if the freeze could happen but for now I would just be happy if I didn't get hounded.

I know I'm naive but still cross with zero loyalty bank. I started off my telling them debt figure and my salary. They insisted on working through every detail (you can imagine how long that took). Then said no because of the amount. They may well have said no from the start! Rant over. Must start trying to be positive!

  • remember how banks think, you think I'm loyal, they think cashcow, you think I'm in trouble they think, give us back the money and b##### off!!!

I think it gets easier once you realise this is what it is like. For what its worth I have always phoned/spoken to them on the phone. I know the general advice is not to speak on the phone, but it needs to get sorted and sometime speaking to them on the phone was the easiest answer. You are right of course, there are no rules and that's what makes it difficult.

I can second that. Think they recommend not to, in case you say the wrong thing, or give them more money. As long as you're strong and don't lose your temper with them if they're difficult, then they're normally fine. They want their money, so if you explain your situation, rather than 'avoid' them, then they're reasonably happy.

  • Morning and cheers guys.

Is it a a case of, I'm sorry, I can't afford it, I'm in a DMP and everything has to go through that route so that the money is shared out proportionately, or will they expect to keep going through i & e and seeing proof?

  • Its a bit like the prisoner of war stuff, name rank and number!!! Most back off once you tell them you have a DMP, supply them with your number and then CCCS/Payplan gives them all the information electronically. I can speak for CCCS and they send the stuff several times if thats what it takes to get it sorted. You pay CCCS once a month and they work out all the prorata stuff and send the money on seeples!!! One thng you don't do is ever give anybody any extra as you have to be seen to fair to all of them.

Hi, PDD & HH, I can speak for Payplan and they give you a 'creditors' phone number and if you give that to any callers with your Payplan ID number they can contact them directly. Also, as PDD says, some of them pretend that they haven't received the information (in order to frighten you into paying more money) and Payplan have been very good at resending stuff to creditors for me. Good Luck!!

  • Thanks for that. I think I will play it by ear as to whether I answer not, going from hopeful to sheer terror in the space of a few minutes at the mo.

Hoping to hear from the co-op before the end of the week.

Had another NSD - trying to get into the lingo, was all double dutch a couple of weeks ago!
