Hi new to these forums but hope someone can help :D

I have been on a DMP with the CCCS 11 months and now owe just under 12k as of this month!
I currently pay £252 a month too the CCCS and this is perfect (once i got used to the budgeting!)

The problem is i have just found out i am pregnant - The maternity scheme where i work is rubbish - I get 90% of my wages for 6 weeks then straight down to SMP for the remainder. I have worked out that my wages will drop to around £480 p/m.

What i am worried about is that i will no longer be able to pay £252 p/m to the CCCS - It would be more around the £100 p/m mark (at the most!!!)
I really dont want to get my creditors backs up though as the DMP was running so smoothly!

Would i be better writing to my creditors and offering them a token payment for approx 8 months then continue my DMP when i return to work??

    Any advice appreciated.
    Thankyou in advance! :)

    Hi
We had the same thing happen with us last year, you can claim working tax credits, which isnt a great deal(depending on your earnings) and also child benifit around £20 a week, this helped us with the payments while my partner has been off work.
I would just explain to your DMP company what is going on,ours was fine and then pay what you can for however long your off, then once you go back to work up the payments
    hope this helps and congratulations!

Argh. Things have been bumping along alright.. although of course we're still getting slammed with interest and late payments for DH's debts.. but then our one and only joint debt, our overdraft of £2K, has finally decided to play up. I was making separate payments on that, as it has my name on it as well, to keep it under the limit - just paying the interest plus slightly more. Well, last month, they charged me an extra £60 for being over the limit, but according to my statement it hadn't gone over the limit at all. So I called and complained and insisted that they reimburse the £60 that they had charged us as well as any additional charges that would be added because of that taking us over the limit. The person on the phone agreed that I was correct and the charges were incorrect. She fixed it while we were on the phone (and then the next day I verified it by checking it online), and voila - back under the limit.

Today we received a letter from the bank saying they want the full £2K paid in full within 3 weeks. It seems that they were fine with us keeping it going when they could charge us extra monthly fees, but the minute I brought it under the limit and started chipping away at it, little by little (and complained about incorrect fees), then suddenly they want it all now! I suppose it's just a coincidence, but it's interesting timing, to say the least. Now I'm going to have to call them and hash it out and see what can be done. Hate dealing with them on these types of things.

I have a few questions for a friend of mine that doesn't have any internet access. Although I am on a DMP with Payplan, I haven't been on it that long and I don't really feel equiped to advise her properly as she has a mortgage and other things to pay that I don't!
She is really worried at the moment as she has DS 3 and is pregnant, she is struggling to make re-payments and has borrowed quite a lot of money from her family etc. I have been telling her about Payplan as she was talking about contacting 1 of her CC to ask them to freeze interest, but I said to her she would need to ask all her CC to do this (is this correct)?? She then said she would like to ask all of her CC to do this but her and her OH paid £800 last year to a financial advisor?!?! who said he could get 2 of their CC (MBNA ones) written off in court......this hasn't actually been done yet although she has recieved a letter to say it is going to court in the next 28 days...but apparently part of this 'agreement' is that both of them still need to make the minimum payment on both these cards, so she can't offer them token payments until the court have made a decision???

I didn't really know what to say to her as I have heard about people getting CC written off as 'un-enforcable' debt but I wasn't sure it actually worked...has anyone got any experience of this???

I will try and get a SOA from her and then maybe someone could give some advice

    Thanks

  • hi,
just to let you know, we're up !!!!!! creek without a paddle, i'm, or we're in a little debt (30k +) and have defaulted on our mortgage....
I'm a self employed plasterer, my wife works p/t, and have two (expensive) boys (7&3)
we were managing our debt ok ( iva ) until the recession, and have really struggled ever since.
We put our house up for sale (sold), (having 40+ eq), to pay off ALL debt, and take 10K off mortgage, but Santander will not port the mortgage, as we have defaulted. So, as we have ccj's we can't even rent ( unless with a gaurenter)
AND we don't have enough points to even get a council house !!

Here's to a warm summer ( won't be too cold in the tent !!!)

    Hi
Sorry to hear things arent going so well. I dont now where you live however your local council will have a housing aid department or emergency housing department. You have to visit them with evidence that your house has been sold and that the equity is being used and they will advice you as to the housing options they can offer you. Do not tell them about any family or friends wo could help, just let them know you will be homeless. These departments / schemes do not work on the points system they are run for hardship cases.

With regard to rentals you are correct you could not rent through an agency but you wil find that a lot of private Landlords will not do credit checks. Try your local paper or gumtree for your area and I am sure you will find a Landlord who will not take credit reports.

I hope this helps and if you need any further hep just PM me, I work in housing!!!!

The unenforceable debt is to do with the agreements they signed. See below for more info.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/write-off-your-debts I wouldn't have thought they'd need to pay their Financial Advisor to do this though...

The official debts can go on the DMP, not sure on loans from family and friends though. They really need to talk to one of the free services (National Debtline, PayPlan, CCCS, CAB), to talk through their options.

When you say defaulted, have you not been paying your mortgage?

Sorry, should read the first part of your post. Have you spoken to Santander to explain the situation? Did they know you were in trouble before the default?

Hi, I'm 7 months into my self managed DMP.

Had a 6 month review with Santander - they asked for Bank statements and wage slips - never sent this before just a SOA.

Do I really need to send this? Can I send the statement with lines blanked out as its a joint account & hubby isn't on the DMP?

Have nothing to hide but no one else has ever asked for this and I don't like it!!

    Thanks
