wish it was a one of, but think my budget is going to have to stay that low, as all my spare cash that was being used to pay my dmp now has to pay, rates, and electricity and water.

This is waht is worrying me, it is going to take me a couple of years to get back up to a decent amount.

the way i am looking at it now, is that if they put a charge on me, then they put a charge on me, like they say, they cant ahve what i dont have.

Anyway, the reason I popped by was to tell of one of the many small satisfying moments on a DMP.

My phone rang and I was told the government had authorised them to freeze all interest on my debts.

I replied - I don't pay any interest on my debts.
Caller - You don't have any debts?
Me - No, I don't pay any interest on my debts.
Caller - Do you have a credit card. (No) Do you have a loan (No)
Me - I'm in a debt management plan and have no interest on my debts
Caller - Oh. Can I ask what company you are with?
Me - Yes CCCS, the charity.
    Caller - Oh, bye.
    :D

That sounds like essentials to me! The point of a DMP is to be able to live and survive whilst paying off your debt at the rate you can afford. If that's all you can afford at the moment then that's still better than nothing/bankruptcy for the creditor surely?

In 3 years, I've had no CCJ's at all. Just defaults - like I care about my credit rating these days

Thats the way i was looking at it, i will call the DCA's that have my debts and tell them.

CCCS are reducing my payment in February, and then i am doing a new buget with them during Feb, for the march payment once i have found out all the costs that i will incur.

I think with my mum dying on the 3rd January and funerals all of this is magnified, but eventually i will see the light again, oh and on top of that my sisters had to have her dog put to sleep today.

There comes a point where you need to accept that you are doing the best that you can to repay (with the help of CCCS of course) and that you need to stop worrying about it quite so much and just get on with living and enjoying life within the budget you have.

That's when the DMP settles down and the creditors go quieter and you can put the debt on the back burner slightly and just check balances from time to time.

It's taken me nearly 3 years to get to that point though :o (coz of my head, not coz of the creditors, they've been quiet for ages). In the end, it's only money - if you have enough for food, shelter, clothes, light and heat then that's what counts.

  • Thanks Newlywed, i think things like i said are magnified at the moment, but when i think about it i know you are right, and if it takes me twenty years, it takes me twenty years! but i will survive!!

  • Well folks, its finally confirmed. I am a complete numpty!!!

OH was all geared up to call Mint about the extra charges, when he said, "Hang on, there's a small minus sign beside these..." Needless to say, it was the interest from last month refunded. My (feeble) excuse is that we are so used to creditors taking money for any reason that I just panicked. All this is making me paranoid!!!

Thanks for help anyway, hopefully next time I'll actually READ the letter.

Hi All, Im new and have just taken the first step to set up a DMP with CCCs (ive filled in the online form) - I have a few questions...

    1) Do I pay my debtors or does CCCs? Ive been reading the threads and it sounds as if you are paying the payments whereas I thought the CCCs paid them for you?

2)When making a payment to CCCs how do I pay it?

    3) Do credit card companies HAVE to freeze interest?? I dont want to me in a position where they dont! I have 6 credit cards  and 2 loans!! Surely i cant end up worse off - Can I ?????

    Scared!!

    hi all,

well i read this forum every day and keep up to date but have not posted much. things have been going ok for me i ahve been on a low start dmp since april 09 and things have been quiet, unfortunately on the 3rd January my mum died, she lived with me and my sister, as my sister an i paid the mortgage she paid all the utility bills as her contribution.

I had to contact CCCS yesterday as you can well imagine i am now going to ahve to pay for half of all the household bills, it is going to take my payment down by over a half, i spoke to cccs and they said you can only pay over what you can afford and it may not be the best situation but you can only pay what you can afford, and that the minimum they would accept is £5 per creditor, i know its not going to be that little, but i am getting worried again.

Has anybody experienced a drop in payments by as much as this?

    Hi anyhelptaken
SO sorry to hear of the loss of you Mum. Be kind and look after yourself first. Money is tangible - love is not.
As you say you can only pay back what you can afford. Maybe a letter to each of your creditors explaining the sad reason for your reduction in payment?
I'm sure they do have a beating heart somewhere in their corporate bodies and will look kindly on your efforts to repay, if you keep them informed.
Hope it works out for you and my thoughts are with you.
