Ooh, ooh, I'd love some of that, not sure on my finances though...

I've been squirreling away since Sept (including extra money from birthday and money given for things from dad, rather than spending it). And also managed to get tickets for next year for Pendulum and Peter Kay (and dave matthews band but they are a xmas present)!! how very exciting!!

first time of saving for me and I'm now converted and shall continue!! ;)

checked my account today and it has updated itself and it looks like I'm going to be ok! not exactly 'plenty' of money, but enough! Phew! And flights and parking are booked for the wedding! And I should even be able to buy a few drinks!

Tbh I'm actually pretty proud of myself!! This time last year I didn't know what budgeting WAS and CC's were an essential to do the things I wanted to do! now look at me! The things I have bought/ordered I have thought about and prioitised so I know I really want them, and then paid for with real life money that exists and isn't credit! It's a very good feeling I tell you!

Strangely, next month (because most of what i've bought this month was from the savings, which have now all gone for now) is going to be harder, which I didn't really expect!

    Anyway, yay me!!!!:j

And thank you Payplan and MSE!!!

(Oh and of course to my Dad, who has bailed me out a few times for the things I really couldn't afford and didn't have the savings for! Hopefully I won't have to ask him again tho! My latest mini loans to my dad, and my mum, will be paid off by the end of the month!)

December payments to all creditors went out today in the post. Hopefully we'll get some positive response from them. The letter we included with the payments stated that we would have a more structured payment plan to give them next month, so they'd know what to expect, and that we only wanted contact in writing by post. That last part was mainly because MBNA Virgin (credit card) calls DH's mobile at least 6 times per day, leaving messages saying they need to speak to him TODAY or that it's URGENT they speak to him. Or they are texting him. They call from a couple different numbers however the messages are from them, so DH is no longer answering calls on his mobile from any numbers he doesn't recognise. He is getting rather stressed about it. Since he's off work this week with pneumonia, I'd prefer he rest, not stress. If they continue to call, I'll print off that other letter stating he wants his mobile and home number taken off their records re data protection and see if that stops it.

We've almost got our emergency fund done (we wanted 3 months of income put aside to pay for emergencies). Starting in January, the money we were putting into the emergency fund will then be divided up to pay creditors, based on the percentage owed to them.

We're still getting used to this, and some days it can really get you down. But we are just reminding ourselves that this is better in the long run, as it is also teaching us (by necessity) new and better spending habits as well, which never hurts.

Interestingly, MBNA sends us so much mail (letters demanding payments and that we contact them) for each account with them, that if they simply put the amount they were spending on paper and postage to send these and just put that money on our account, it'd probably be paid off in no time at all! It IS getting easier to spot a form letter now. And the "may" or "might" used is more obvious to me now that I am looking for it - such as we "may" take you to court and things like that. It is a bit depressing to see the balances go up, instead of down, as they all slam on charges and interest. But there you go.... what can you do other than ask them to stop?

I am a bit puzzled as to our overdraft. The overdraft is now getting fees dumped on it - so do we try to pay in a small amount by depositing once a month? Or wait for them to send us something saying that they are closing the account? Or send a letter asking them to close it...not sure what the best approach is for that.

I've also have Lloyds Credit card, O/D and loan.......O/D all interest stopped, always for 6 months at a time though (been on DMP for just over 2 years). Loan, still incurring charges, but put in claim for PPI, after a year still fighting the b%%ast%:mad:, but not giving up. Credit card, although accepted DMP payment continues to add interest....so would be interested to see how you get on MC and maybe there's hope for us all who have Lloyds as creditors.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Will do guys. They have even told my case officer (he phoned them too not believing how much the balance was) that they were passing it onto their debt collection department and all interest and charges were getting stopped.
But will keep you all informed of how it goes. :)

Question those of you who are dealing with lloyds have you missed payments to them???

    Hi

Missed no payments. When your dmp starts, do yourself a favour, keep your internet banking if you have and keep an eye on your statements regularly

  • Hi all, can I ask if this has happened to anyone else - we got OHs RBS Visa bill today. They are 'accepted' on Justabank and last month the interest and charges were 0. Today the bill had £120 interest on it. We never received anything in writing to say they were stopping interest, but why would they do it one month and not the next? Am confused and wonder if anyone can throw some light on this for us. Thanks very much.

Hope we all have a good weekend!

    Hello all,

I'm posting this link for everyone who needs to sign paperwork to creditors etc. I believe there is a one off payment of £4, but I think it's an excellent idea.

Well done you! It's so lovely to hear when one of our exclusive club is making it through and living a life-maybe restricted but one not ruled by credit cards-give yourself a big :T

  • Hi All (and welcome to all newbies).

I still pop by and catch up with all the reading and once again I just need a gentle reminder to all those starting out at this time of year to think that next year will be better, and the year after that, and the year after that and then forever....

This is my first Christmas....like EVER.. that I havent had to worry about creditors, reducing payments for Christmas or worrying that my son who wants the "in" thing this year wont get it. So many years it was token gifts or my fmaily clubbing together to get him the bigger things, but not this year. I have a wonderful boyfriend who has been very supportive throughout, an amazing 11 year old that has more savvy about where things come from than I did until I was 30 and massively in debt, a job that I have just been highly promoted in after a year of very hard work (note to self to enjoy the payrise at the end of January) and everything else. I bought myself a new winter coat the other day which my mother tends to buy me for my christmas pressie and I felt a little guilty that it was £50! I dont think I have ever spent that much on myself in one go... cor it felt good!

Stick in there, you will all get there.

If I dont get chance to post again before Christmas which seems to be rolling around very very quickly I wish you all a very stress free Christmas and remember the creditors cant take away your family, your love or your pride.
