Just discussed with OH and I think I will open a co-op account for my DMP money as I really don't want Halifax to know about DMP as there is no reason for them to know and I don't owe Halifax, Bank of Scotland or Lloyds TSB any money - I don't want to lose my account at Halifax as I have a visa debit card with them and there are still a few places where you can't use visa electron. So will travel into town on tuesday and open (not that many branches around is there)!!! But there are Post Offices everywhere and I will use them instead - thankyou all for your tips x x x:beer:

  • Hi GPUK, glad you got sorted with the address. Apparently you can trace a postal order but you can't do it online and it's a bit of a faff by the sound of it! I'll get the replacement sent off then investigate the lost one at my leisure.

I had a lump in the pit of my stomach too when I saw that Payplan used RBS as they're one of my creditors as well! But I'm sure we're worrying too much - the letting agent I pay my rent to via SO uses HSBC (my ex-bank and current creditor) and I was nervous about that but they can't be *that* far-reaching. Just today I went into HSBC to use their cash machine with my Co-op card and was worried that would mean HSBC would have my new bank details through that!

I was also the same as you about handing in my SO mandate to my safe bank and what they would do on seeing I was in a DMP, as I hadn't told them when I opened it. My first payment has gone out and things seem to be normal, fingers crossed. The Debt charities recommend these safe accounts after all, and these banks must see a lot of DMP paperwork passing through the system. Co-op isn't great for branches but the Post Office access is very handy!

Thanks YP well if they don't get the payment then ((shrug)) they'll get a DMP payment in October so nevermind, I have the receipt of buying 8 PO's and 8 Recorded delivery slips so what will be will be! As I said only worried incase Halifax withdraw my Visa Debit card but I have a Post Office literally opposite my work so will be no problem - do you know if/when I pay in cash how long it will take to get to my account?? As will need to transfer money for 1st DMP payment there in time for the first payment!!

  • Exactly, if you have all the receipts and the recorded tracking refs you've done all you possibly can. It's just bad luck if it doesn't get there after all that!

I've looked in my Co-op booklet and cash paid into the Post Office should be available straightaway, cheques take six working days (!)

  • I think the paranoia about banks is pretty universal, I haven't changed my bank account as none of my debts were linked to it, and it seemed like one less hassle. However I did wonder what they would think about the DMP payment going through - maybe they are too busy to look at everything?!

I have 3 separate accounts with M&S - CC, Personal Reserve and loan (yes i Know they have always been very generous!) Anyway as I said the other day they have frozen the interest on the CC. Yesterday I received acceptance letter for the other two debts but they haven't frozen the interest on the Reserve. I think its because my payments will be around the minimum - is it worth asking them to reconsider, and at least reduce the interest.

Congratulations on being 'debt free' :T

Now I really am laughing out loud, why on earth would I want to read anywhere else....

Hi Everyone, I did find an address for Tesco in the end - it said on the back of the statement ....please enclose cheque in envelope provided but up until now I have been having my statements by email so didn't actually have an envelope!!!

YP I didn't think to check which postal order went to which company either?!? Can you track if they have been cashed then?? Didn't even know you could :)

I received come more paperwork from PayPlan on friday, a budget sheet to sign and send back and a form asking if I wanted any insurance (has anyone done this)? and also the standing order mandate for the bank........only problem is do you think Halifax will freak out when I had this in because then they will know i'm going on a DMP and I didn't really want them to know!! Also PayPlans bank is RBS which is one of my creditors....so will I be inadvertantly be giving them my 'safe' account details. Wondering if I should open a co-op account now instead and spend a few more hours transferring everything over AGAIN! Didn't realise you could use the post office to withdraw/pay in!

Anyway still thinking positive Egg are still calling me about 4 times a day but mobile is constantly on silent so just clear the reg of their calls at the end of the day :)

I took the £5 a month insurance. As a single parent at the time and no other assets or money I thought it to be a bargain and gave me a little peace of mind.

Jilly O Jolly - Always happy to read your sensible and informative posts. Just hope it's better looking than Yoda you are........ ;)

Just returned from a lovely weekend away (Travelodge cheapo sale room, mindblowing intricate budget rail ticket, Clubcard restaurant tokens) Brilliant to see family and beautiful weather. Not looking forward to eating lentils for the rest of the month but it was worth it!
