You can pay cash in and withdraw cash at any post office though ;)

It's just if anyone gives you a cheque that you would have to post it to them or get to the branch

You can also pay cheques in at any post office - they will give you special envelopes for doing this. I wasn't looking forward to changing banks when I set up my account with Co-operative (it was a needs must!) but can honestly say that I am quite pleased with them now. Their customers services is really good; they actually make you feel valued as a customer! And I find being able to pop into my local sub post office to pay cash/cheques in really handy.

They must be more organized that A&L then - the Post office said I needed envelopes from my bank to pay cheques in. I went to the bank and asked and they looked at me like I had two heads!!! So I rang customer services and they didn't know what I was talking about either. So I gave up :p

Because of A&L, I haven't yet bothered trying to get any envelopes from co-op.

I wondered what those envelopes were for. :)

    Please can someone help
I'm in a DMP with Payplan, have been for 3.5 years now. Also have a Charging Order and CCJ with the nasty NRock. I've been worrying recently about the Lloyds TSB HBOS merger.

Our mortgage is with Halifax - I've kept that out of the debt issues and maintained payments continually.
Amoungst other debts we have Loan CC and two overdrafts with HBOS that are on agreed payments. Some of them have been taken over by Blair Oliver Scott who are apparently part of HBOS (debt collection strong arm, but been fairly reasonable with us)
Our current account is with Lloyds, we made it our main account when we entered the DMP as we didn't owe them anything.

My concern is that LLoyds and HBOS becoming part of the same group, they will take money out of our current account and use it towards the debt we have with them.

According to Section 17 of their Personal Banking terms and conditions applicable from 30th Oct, they can do this:

If any money you owe us (for example on a loan, credit card mortgage overdraft or otherwise, under the Lloyds TSB brand or another brand such as Cheltenham &Gloucester) is overdue for payment, we may use any money in any of your accounts with us to reduce or repay (by way of set of or otherwise) what you owe us.
Another sub-section says they can take the money without telling you first if they think you'll move it, and the debts owed or the funding account can be in joint names.

Should I change our bank? I think I should, but I need one that is NOT: HBOS, Lloyds, Barclays, HSBC or Natwest.
(NOT asking or expecting proffessional financial advice etc, just hoping for some some names of banks to look at that are NOT connected to the above, my head is ready to explode because I can't figure with all these mergers who belongs to who)

Any advice or suggestion very welcome,

i hope you don't have to change accounts coz i'd have to too. i have my new account with lloyds and a cc with HBOS. when they were first talking about it i asked pp and they said not to worry at the moment but to keep an eye on it. you've competely reminded me coz i'd forgotten all about it. i'd say give pp a ring and ask their advice on the situation!

  • Hi guys, sorry if i shouldn't post this in here but desperate for some advice. Myself and my hubby are about 99% certain that we will have to go the DMP route asap. The only probs we have is that DH is self employed (sole trader) and he has lots of store acxcounts that he uses for work and needs, however they are always paid in full every month. The debt we have is with CC and loans only, so my question is really, if we start a DMP will it have any affect on DH and his business or because his accounts are already open and up to date will he still be able to use them?

Also, I start uni in 2 weeks and hopefully will receive quite a large bursary and a student loan. What will happen to these if i get them with regard to the DMP? Will I have to declare it and use it to pay off the debt?

Also who is the best and cheapest or free company to go to for a DMP?

    Thankyou

Sorry I have no idea about either of your questions. but if i was you i'd give national debtline (or payplan or CCCS, both of which are much of a muchness) a ring and ask their advice.

  • Hi All, Just catching up with how you are all doing. I almost feel like an intruder posting here now, am I still allowed?? I always read with interest the tactics new and old that creditors use and how well equipped everyone is by sharing their stories here.

  • Received a letter from M&S yesterday accepting the dmp and freezing interest :) It ironical because it was their putting up the interst rate and refusing to reconsider based on my credit profile that pushed me down this route in the first place!

  • Evening all... it's the weekend!!! :T

just a quick up date from moi...

Lloyds TSB Advance Card - accepted and reduced interest to 5.7%
Virgin (MBNA) Card - accepted and frozen interest (not what i expected from this lot at all!)
Nationwide Gold Card- being awkward and adding interest but at least accepted
Alliance and Pester loan - being a complete pita as charging me £25 a letter and adding interest and charges.. i've also got outstanding claim on current account overdraft charges... they've decided they've had enough and closed my current account requesting i re-pay my overdraft within 31 days... i'll have a job lol... so glad i opened the Natwest STEP account... will be having stern words and they can have 5p a month in principle :rotfl:
Simply Be - who knows lol... sent a few OFT late payment leaflets and a statement but no 'pay now or you die' letters... time will tell... i've only added them on this month.

Still no phone calls... shame really i've picked up some fab ways of dealing with them from this thread!! ;)

    Have a fab one!

    FAO Scouselad re: Monument charges

debateable whether a £12 charge is fair or not BUT 2 x £12 charges a month certainly isn't! We had exactly the same problem and I wrote to Monument to complain. OH charges totalled £180 but they offered £90 as goodwill gesture, not that hot on the ins and outs of all the regulation blah blah  Still we got £90 off the total so....

    Try this -

    Monument
    Customer Services
    PO Box 6476
    Northampton
    NN4 1ZN

    Dear Sir or Madam

    Account number: xxxxxxxxx

I am writing to request that you repay all the late payment fees and over limit fees that have been applied to my account.

I do not believe the charges reflect the true cost to Monument and are unfair and disproportionate. I am therefore requesting a refund based on the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999.

The charges total £xxx. I believe I have been unlawfully deprived of the money and therefore ask that you repay me the full amount. Please find enclosed a full breakdown of the charges. (I did include a list of all the double charges I could find)

I look forward to a full response to this letter within 14 days.

    yours faithfully

    Scouselad :D

You are still allowed but I am sure Martin wrote somewhere that if you are debt free you have to send a tenner a month to all the poor sods who aren't :D:rotfl:

Congratulations on being 'debt free' :T
