Yes you definitely can claim charges back whilst on a DMP, but it will be reduced from the debt. I claimed back ovr £3k from MBNA after a rather large fight, but it brought my balance to an appropriate level as they were one of the creditors still charging whopping interest rates, over limit fees and late fees (for some reason it was taking 26 days for my payplan money to go from my account to hit theirs - not right!! Although funny enough after I complained it magically changed).
Anyway, just wanted to update you all that I PAID MY LAST PAYMENT TODAY!!! Just waiting for the confirmation of £0 balances and out comes that champagne. Payplan have been great on their settlements team and as I have paid them another months money on 1st August I will receive a fat cheque in 2 weeks getting it back!! WHOOP WHOOP YIPPEEEE
There is light at the end of the tunnel. Dont lose hope and remember why you had your lightbulb moment. DMPs work. Credit is not your money, you spend it, you have to give it back. Its worth it just to feel like I do today.
Thank you all

Hey all -
Can anyone send me the link for a decent "stop calling me its harrassment" letter - I should have it memorised Ive sent so many in the past but brain isnt working today.
Thanks!MSE-ing since 20070 -
Thank you to everyone. Yes a big weight lifted off my shoulders, but I can still remember those feelings and sleepless nights at the beginning of this journey. Dont be afraid, just reading this forum is a step in the right direction, posting your inner most fears is a leap in the right direction and meeting virtual friends in the same boat and sharing your experiences has to be the greatest feeling.
I can live my life now with massive, I mean MASSIVE lessons learnt along the way. I will not be swayed into credit ever again. I am meeting with my bank next week to open my first savings account ever. I think the money I have been paying to the creditors which I have got used to living without for four years can go in there.
Be strong, be brave and know your rights, the nationaldebtline website is very good for reference and of course the best references are people themselves on here, they have lived it and breathed it.
I have a wonderful son and a wonderful boyfriend, who I was honest with from the start. He was very encouraged and respected the fact that I still owned by debts and did not miss anything. Although it has meant that we have missed out on a few things and have not quite got over the guilt of him paying for nice meals or takeaways, now I can give something back. Love is always more important than anything money can buy.
I will always be around, if anyone needs help or advice I will still be here.

Hey JOJ ... Huge congratulations on finishing off your DMP, wish I was at that point too!Can I ask please, I note you say you claimed charges back ... did you do that while the DMP was still going, or did you wait until the (almost) end? I'm getting £24 a month charges applied every month from one of my creditors and a whacking £150 a month (10 days x £15 a day, the max they can apparently put on) on another, but I'm wondering if I put a claim in for this, won't they just keep right on adding in the charges after that? Is it worth my applying until my DMP is due to finish?
Some creditors are just pains in the derriere ... !

Hi Althea,
Yes I claimed after about a year.. MBNA balance was going up not down! I got my statements from them and added them all up and also added the 8% interest on top. They originally wanted to give me £500 off a £4,600 balance (limit was £4,400 so charges were mounting). They duly took this off my balance which made a huge dent, but I still went for the entire amount and in January 2008 I got a letter stating they were giving me the rest although the letter did contain some rather firm statements that I had not held up my end of the credit bargain. They also at that point agreed to reduce the interest from 31.% down to 12%. they then became my easiest creditor from them on in. I would never have reduced their balance without it. In just over a year I had paid them £5K and only £26 had come off my balance!! You have nothing to lose.
Good luck

I am absolutely MADE UP for you hun!
Well done - what a fantastic feeling it must all be!MSE-ing since 20070 -
Finally hit the big 30 yesterday...but since my I started my DMP 3 months ago I finally feel as though I'm in control and most of the people I owe money to have been fine...I can now sleep again and I wish I started it earlier!
Saying that I'm going to have a go at reclaiming my credit card charges from both Barclaycard and Halifax just because there being a pain in the !!!! considering there the lowest balances I actually owe to people and they phone on a regular basis. Anyone had any success with these two?
Any how roll on Tuesday night for the gig of the year..Pearl Jam at Shepherds Bush:T
Yes I claimed my CC charges back from Halifax and got everything back. I used the template letters which are on the main site. I sent them my request which they refused and offered me the difference between the charges and the £12. I sent the follow up letter saying I wanted the full amount back and they said OK! Was a very easy process but it's something you have to keep on top of. I think it was nearly £700 they reduced my balance by. They are still charging me interest tho! I've now written to them asking them to stop interest as my balance isn't decreasing by much each month. I'm going to give them a few more days to reply and if I don't hear I'll have a think about what I'm going to do then.
Good luck with getting yours back! It really does work!:DLight Bulb Moment 4th January 2009 :eek:Started DMP 1st April 2009 :ADMP mutual support thread member: 267 :j0 -

I am so jealous. Saw them in 2000 at Wembley Arena, then a couple of years ago at Reading (at memorable moment for me). Best thing about a DMP is still retaining (and appreciating more) those treats without caning the credit card as we all used to do. Shepherds Bush is a cracking venue.DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
I've just received my statements from Barclaycard (I have a mastercard and visa card with them). No covering letter, but my minimum payments are set at the CCCS payment amounts and the interest rate is 3% for both:j
It would have been great if they had frozen interest completely, but 3% is a lot better than the 19% I was paying. So, out of six creditors three have agreed to my DMP, two have defaulted me and I've not heard a peep from the last one yet.
Best of all, the phone calls have stopped:beer:
I can't believe it has taken just a month to get from constant anxiety to pure relief. Why didn't I do this three or four years ago?
Congrats to everyone at the end of their DMP! Heartwarming to read that there is an end to it all!
