The bank is the Royal Bank of Scotland - £12 per month gets you free airport lounge
I take it that's the Royalties Gold account? But the www site says you have to book your travel through them, same deal I get with Lloyds Premier. But it's invariably cheaper to book elsewhere & pay for the lounge. The £15 RBS Premier account doesn't have that restriction - anyone know if there's any criteria for joining?0 -
Note that you cannot pay or otherwise to get access to BA lounges - you either quailify to enter or you dont (by Silver/gold members card or business ticket etc.)
If you want to be a real moneysaver, you could hang about outside of BA lounges and watch for single people going in and ask them if you can go in as their guest!! This may only work for women tho :rotfl:
BA lounges are more superior to Serviceair or similar lounges. Also, most lounges only supply snacks (crisps, biscuits etc.) not all have food, and if they do they only tend to be at certain times (e.g. lunchtime, dinner time etc)
Overall I would say they are worth the money though. Book online in advance if you can for best deals.0 -
In all fairness you it is only the paid for shared lounges which are avaible. The airline lounges, like BA, as arealhighlander has said, are only aviable to business class / airline status people."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

I have used lounges at most of the UK's airports (usually on business) and have found them all to be excellent. Not many accept kids, I have mainly been in the airline ones rather than the paid for ones, though last time i was a belfast city it was a bit manic, lots of delayed flights, I would only tend to use them if delayed . Mostly arrive at the last minute.

I think most lounges have a time limit i.e. you can only enter within 3 hours of your departure time.ManAtHome wrote:Interesting stuff - are the Manchester lounges available before you book in?
When I fly from Man, I'd prefer to get to/from the airport by train but this is a bit tricky for early morning flights. First train reaches the airport around 7:30am, so not really safe for flights before 9:30 (allowing for missing train, leaves on the line etc...). The last train would get me there around 1:30am and I could probably live with a bit of a doze in a comfy lounge...Not even wrong0 -
Most lounges only open around 6am or 7 am anywayI'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Have a look at this thread for a fantastic cheap lounge:

just come back from hols and booked lounges at both airports (manchester + barbados) using the egg cashback offer, which i notice has reduced to 50% cashback(was 75%)
i never actually got to the manchester lounge. but i have 2 children(1 under 12)and had no problem with booking them in,it was the serviceair lounge.i think they have only recently started allowing children and this is why you might be having trouble booking.
would highly recommend anyone flying to barbados to book into a lounge,as the airport is not airconditioned  so just the airconditioning alone was worth the price i paid:j good selection of drinks, and a few nibbles.

I have recently upgraded my RBS account to a Royalties Premier. I noticed the airport lounge benefit appears different between the Gold and the Premier account - the Premier says free entry to UK and worldwide lounges (no mention of having to book using their travel service).
I have telephoned a couple of times to ask about the lounges, and on every occassion the operator has quoted the Gold benefit (have to book the flights with their service). I am waiting for my intro pack, which apparently has all the details, and a special application form for the prioritypass.com scheme ... hopefully the Premier benefit will be the top of the range prioritypass.com package and allow unlimited free entry to participating lounges (UK and worldwide).
Will let folks know when I get all the stuff ..
