i was in local BK with a discount voucher, and a woman came in asking if she could use the loos to take care of her young kid in a pushchair, who was in distress (needing a pee!)..
this place charges 50p to use the loo, unless you have bought something..
she had offered to pay the fee, and I offered her my till receipt which had the door code, as i didnt need it.
only to be pounced upon bu BK staff, saying you cant do that, SHE has to pay..
they woudnt accept my argument that the loo use was already paid for, and it would cost more to clear up any mess in the restaurant if the kid didnt make it in time..
I can't beleive I was made to feel guilty for trying to help out, despite paying for a meal already. I was tempted to ask for money back and go elsewhere, but i was too hungry..
geez, no wonder the place was almost empty with that attitude to customers..
haven't they any discretion in such matters? its not like the loos were kept on tip top condition anyway (from previous experience).

Don't go back then. The only way companies learn is when it hits them in the pocket. I watched subway take the !!!! with an old lady who just wanted the deal they were advertising and they kept adding stuff to her order without telling her it would cost extra. I will never go back in that place again. You should do the same with Burger King.0

I agree, don't go back.
Write a letter to the manager if you feel that is in order.

It totally disgusts me that people think they can take advantage of our elderly.0 -

Most Subways are franchises and like most businesses who have to pay for franchises, royalties and fixed suppliers there is pressure to upsell. The man without a signature.0 -

I'll never forget travelling with my Mum and driving a long distance, seeing a pub on the side of the road we popped in to have a quick wee. Normally we would like to give some patronage but didn't have the time to stop and have a coffee. Seeing a quiz machine or something similar we thought we'd have a quick play to put some money in and have a quick rest... Some man started shouting at us, about how we were nobodies who only wanted the loo, and now we could win all the money when people had put a load of cash in the machine... We just ran away as quick as we could!!
Some people are complete loons!
50 p to have a pee!!! What a joke!! (Anyone else get as cross as I do at train stations when they charge you... ARRRGH!)I love surprises!0 -
I thought it was bad enough that Waterloo station in London charges 30p for use of the toilets."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Name and shame that place ! then send a e mail to BK complaining

I personally think that "public conveniences" should have a minimal charge, like 5 pence or something but BK is a business not a public place, so I think it's perfectly reasonable to allow you to only use the loo with a till receipt. What beggars belief is that the staff are made to feel they have no discretion in this matter but what we don't know is whether the business actually penalises the staff if they find their staff have exercised any.
Fast-food places are, or used to be, abused by the drink and/or drug dependent, so I don't necessarily blame them imposing restrictions. What's most maddening to me is that there are so few public lavs anywhere now and those that still remain are not manned and are therefore not places a normal person would want to use, even in a dire emergency.0
