I would try calling the bank tomorrow morning just in case. I know the call centre you ring is somewhere else but you could call them and ask to be put through to the bank, and explain why they need to do this. Or ask them - the call centre might know.
I know we can cash a cheque for £500 for our business account no problem, but I don't know if there are restrictions for larger amounts.
I'd take in at least a couple of forms of ID with you as well.Indecision is the key to flexibility0 -
It'd be a good idea to give them some warning first thing. I recently withdrew £1000 from my Barclays account with no issues and no prior warning, but just to be on the safe side I'd give them a call. My withdrawal wasn't critical, it sounds like yours could beStarting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I think that should be fine with hsbcFor everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -
You MUST take your chequebook otherwise they will not encash the amount-HSBC still use old processing systems and need the cheque you cash as a 'voucher' for audit purposes. They no longer openly leave withdrawral slips out for customer use as this was leading to fraudulent encashments, so the only way to withdraw large sums, over your normal £300 Maestro/Visa limit (£200 for Solo and Basic Accounts and £1000 for Premier) is to use a chequebook and put the payee as 'cash'.Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!

OP, I recently withdrew £3K from a small village branch without pre-notifying them, so you'll 'probably' be OK.0 -
Why do hsbc need cheques still to process a counter withdrawal? Surely they are unique in this, and they are a modern (and rich!) bank so having old systems is no excuse.0

Why should they pay to have a system put in when the current system works fine? I don't tend to take huge amounts out of my current account without knowing in the morning, so it's not really an issue to take the cheque book with me!0 -

Or you ring them and ask for your card to be upgraded to higher daily limit. Mine is £1000 subject to funds being in there. Takes a nano-second to update as well. They just adjust the daily withdrawal limit for you, then take 4 x £250 per atm for two days!2010 - year of the troll

Went to Barclays this afternoon, to close the martured monthly saving account with £3,000 something...no problem took all the cash out. The branch is in a small village.0
