I just threatened to cancel my £36 per month sub in accordance with Martin's "Insider's Tips" and was duly offered three months at half price. I was about to accept this when the bloke then offered me the alternative of a 25% discount over a whole year, saving a whopping £108! Result. :j
The way I put it across was that I felt Freeview offered me a lot of what I used to watch on Sky, and that my fav football team had been relegated from the Premiership and so weren't on TV very often etc etc. I made it obvious that it was a cost issue and a marginal decision, and I think that helped.
It's worth noting that Sky are upgrading their systems right now, so any deals/ cancellations won't go through until Thursday, when the new software is live. So, be bold with your cancellation threat, as you can presumably change your mind if they accept! Good luck.

I should have mentioned that the telephonist first tried to tell me about the "One Mix" and "Two Mix" packages as an alternative, but I suggested that i was an "all or nothing" kind of person and would want the sports channels if I had anything.
Hope this helps you in your negotiations, fellow money savers!0 -
Hi Scrummy
I take it you were out of your contract. I'm only 4 months in to my 12 month contract. Can you only haggle after the 12months?
Cheers0 -
I've been subscribing for a few years, so i'm not sure about subscribers in their first year. It never hurts to try, though.0

@ scrummy,
the course of action at the moment for sky seems to be that they can offer you 3 mths at half price if you are threatening to cancel, then they will do this again if you phone back to try and cancel again, then after that they can (or this is what happened to me) offer you 20% off a mth or 25% a month if you sign up for min 12 mths - again if you are threatening to cancel.
So if you havent accepted id go for the 3 mths @ half price first and see what happenes after that. It is worth noting that their cancellations dept id referred to within sky as the retensions dept!!
I have now decided to skin my package down to 4 mix with 20% off, after having everything for 6 mths @ half price because we just didnt watch it enough.
It should work out at £15 a mth for 4 mix.
Seems ok to me

ive been thinking of ringing up to cancel too, might prompt me to it now if they are giving half price off0

A three months ago I rang to cancel sky and refused the 3months half price saying I still wanted to cancel and they offered me £50 argos vouchers and half price rental for 3months. I accepted this and cancelled recently they ended up paying me £5 to watch it for three months!!0

i just rung up saying i wanted to cancel . they offered me the 25% off the full package so would of been £31 amonth but with a 12month contract, but then i said i didnt want another contract so they offered me 20% off which works out to be £34 amonth for 12months with no contract. so instead of £42.50 a month im now paying £34 for the next yr0

Thanks for this useful info. I'm going to get OH to contact Sky (it's in his name) and see if they'll do the same for us as I'd love to reduce the cost and still keep the package (always want my cake and eat it!) :rotfl:0
