You can never, ever say that - whatever the job. You just never know what the future brings - trust me, I speak from experience.

I know BB's background and I would trust what she is saying. You only have to watch the news and read the paper that many jobs are being lost though-out the uk. No one can say 100% that they are in a 'safe' job because its not true. If you oh lost his job you would then be living off your single wage untill he got another. In that circumstance you would but rent, council tax and food well above a luxary.

I'm 24 and I got myself into debt bother. I went to university and borrowed £10,000 for fees, living and books/equipment. When I got my first job I changed my car £9000 of debt and some stupid one off purchases on my credit card (£2000). My wage didn't clear my £1000 overdraft as I was still spending money on stupid things (not haircuts but computer games, beer etc). I sat down and had a long hard look at my cash flow and I worked out what to pay first. I cleared all my debts (£2000 to go but thats a recent one :p) by stopping spending the stupid money. Yes I didn't have much fun for 2 or 3 years while I cleared the debts but now they are gone I feel so much happier.

Yes I felt like a penny pinching cheapskate but I am much better off for it now!

Could you not make those changes now then for a few months and then resume 'normal' life? You say you pay £40 as a set direct debit then £100 extra. If this was bumped up by another £100 so a total of £240 being payed off each month you could be debt free within nine months. Nine months is an incredibly short debt free journey by any standards. Once you are debt free you could have more luxary's than just this one and your lifestyle could improve that much more :D

You don't have to trust me  but you really need to listen to the advice everyone has tried their hardest to give you.

I worked in a VERY safe job and lost my job 2 years ago. Very long story but, as I say, you just never know what - or who - is around the corner, work wise.
