Once you are debt free you could have more luxary's than just this one and your lifestyle could improve that much more :D

+1 To this. I'm so so close (Nov / Dec) to being debt free and then I can be more like I used to be but a lot wiser.

yes and now i have this extra money as im not paying rent then i can do that.

You are lucky you are able to stop paying rent, I know it was optional in the first place but still looking at the SOA there is scope for cutting expenditure.

Congrats Arlen, I bet you are glad you got the whole debt/debt free journey out of the way while you were young. I am still very young (which is why I was drawn to post on this thread) and thanks to mse I have done the whole debt thing. Now I have my whole life to lead... but I would never lose all the knowledge I have gained from the people on here, its all invaluable :T

I spend £10 every 3 months on mine (but I'm a bloke so not directly comparable!) :p

I got a pair of clippers, do it myself, cost me around £10 for a lifetime of haircuts.

    Now I feel smug;)

Sorry, but I'm ready to help even the most challenging of posters but I really don't think the OP is going to listen to anything any of us have to say and I don't think we'll get any kind of headway here.

The OP is not a real poster with a real problem. My guess would be that they have no more spent £100 on a haircut than I have. A quick look at my likeness in my avatar will confirm that £100 haircuts aren't my thing. :D
I lurk on the DFW board and love the advice people give so please can everyone stop wasting their time advising someone with a mythical problem and get back to helping those with real problems and who really want help cos that's what you're all brilliant at?

I must admit that it was quite a clever trick starting a thread in the Arms about this thread. Bound to get more people involved.:T

Well I'll be debt free apart from the car on finance! But with no other money owing soon it will be great!

Hi there, sorry if this strays somewhat from your original question but it's about the idea of cutting back on rent payments that you mentioned above.

I can definitely see where your parents are coming from, encouraging you to contribute equally to the mortgage. As long as you're working, being in the habit of paying rent matters a lot for your independence and the respect between you as equal partners. Not things to give up lightly. Resentment could easily build up over time, even if he happily says now that he doesn't want or need rent money off you.

If your solution is not to pay the rent for a while, may I suggest setting a definite target date by when you will aim to clear the debt and restart your rent contributions?

Ironically, probably better than before the self done haircuts. There's something about short and simple that suits me better than all those odd layered jobbies the hairdressers try to foist off on you.
