You may well have a point, never thought about it. I rarely use that cashpoint but in the last 4 years that's where Ive walked off twice now, first time man came after me.

Natwest said it could take 3 weeks, they are rasing it with HSBC.

This happened to me many years ago but I didnt leave it I was messing around with my purse and it was taken back into the machine before I had chance to grab it. That was HSBC and when I phoned them they refunded the money straight back into my account. Good luck.

Most of the bigger ATMs (not the tiddlers you get in shops) operate Card-Before-Cash, this prompts you to take the card first so that they know you're still there. If the card isn't taken then the transaction is reversed.

If you take the card and the cash is not taken then the ATM will retract the cash and place it in the divert bin inside. This isn't automatically re-credited as there's no way to count it, and a savvy fraudster could ask for £50 and delicately remove the middle note!

The previous respondant is right, each day (or when they replenish) the operators take a note of how much is in the divert bin (some dodgy notes go in there also).

If the cash was retracted then it will be logged on the journal roll.

The process is usually to raise a dispute with your bank, they'll pass it to the ATM owner who will check their system and maybe the journal roll.. Worth noting that some institutions don't bother checking, they just refund the money as it may cost them more (in time and effort) to check!

If someone else swiped your cash then yes, the bank will wash their hands of it and it's down to the ATMs' camera to track them down.

Good news, appears that as of yesterday the £100 has been credited to my account, just need to confirm with Natwest that this is the case. Made a deal with myself that if I got it back, half would go to charity.
