unwanted text messages...
Hi all,
Today I got two unwanted text messages, one about bills and another one about injury lawyers (like those billions of irritating TV ads!). Both came from different numbers and both said at the end:
'2 stop txt STOP'
I'm unsure whether or not to reply STOP to them as I know with spam using the 'unsubscribe' option can make it known that your number is working...
Please can someone advise?

I also received one today.FreeMsg: Utext! Our all new SMS service. Get 1000 SMS per week - Text YES to 85066
1000 web2mob SMS for £3.00/wk. 08445796350 Optout txt stop to 85066
Completely unsolicited. I don't want to send of a message saying "STOP" (effectively costing me money) to an unsolicited message and prove to some unscrupulous people that my number is valid.
Result - I went to phonepayplus.org.uk and added a complaint.
There needs to be a better way to do this.*I reserve the right to have an opinion, the right to change this opinion and the right to be wrong.*Hope that helps. If you find this post useful, please feel free to hit the V V V V V V 'Thanks' button below0 -
Just got the same text, googled it and found you guys!
I'm wary of replying as I might find that it starts billing me.
I hate these people.
How do they sleep at night, after scamming hard working people of their hard earned cash?

I started receiving messages from this number (85066) advertising its ringtone download service. I got annoyed after the third message and decided to use the "stop sending messages" option, sending the word STOP to 85066, as the original message stated.
I did this yesterday and I have not received any new messages.
HOWEVER... I checked online my mobile account and found that they charged me for sending them the STOP message. It was just 9p plus normal operator charges. HOWEVER, if they charge 9p for every time they receive a stop message (or any other message) they will make a lot of money.
In the end, it is my money and I haven not authorized anybody to charge me anything to stop sending me unsolicited messages. I even suspect about the legality of this.0 -
What a cracking con, I wonder what bright spark thought that one up?
All those 9ps add up to a tidy sum I bet?

I was scammed like this a few months ago - unsolicted texts being sent and charged at £1.50 a time for the priviledge. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1607621&highlight=
If you're with T Mobile or Tesco Mobile you can stop unsolicited premium rate texts being sent to your phone. You can do this yourself if you log in to your account on the web. Or the network operators will do it for you.
These are the only two I know of that offer this service.0 -
Hi
I text what i thought was a competition on number 84100, since then i have been receiving crude messages on my phone, i contacted my provider and they gave me a number of the company, when i called it went to an answering machine. I did text "stop" and got the confrmation text saying that i was unregistered so i thought all was fine untill i received another text this morning which everytime i get one they take £1.50 of my credit, does anyone know how i can make sure that these are stopped or who i can get in contact with to complain.
Thanks for any help.0 -
Argh i just got a text message from the number: 85066
Message says: FreeMsg: Utrxt! Our new SMS service get 1000 sms per week. Text YES to 85066
I'm a bit worried about there being a no TEXT NO OPTION. (Like Amenus did above)
Shall i just leave it? I'll be so annoyed if i start to get billed!!
I'm on o2 btw, if anyone has a similar text from them.0 -
I've had a few messages like this. The first I text STOP and a few seconds later I got the exact same message again. I now just delete them without replying. If I got an excessive amount or was being charged for them, i'd look into doing something about it. It is very annoying though. Think happy & you'll be happy
I :heart2: my doggies

When I was scammed (I didn't even reply to texts) at £1.50 a time for unsolicited texts. I rang T Mobile and emailed them. I made such a nuisance of myself that they eventually credited the money back to me. You really have to be assertive, persistant but civil.
As I said previously, T Mobile & Tesco Mobile at the only networks I know that you can put a stop to these unsolicited texts.
Good luck.
Afterthought. - T Mobile told me I had to arrange to get my money back from the texters. Not bloomin likley I thought! I didn't request the texts and T Mobile took the money. Therefore T Mobile are responsible for refunding.0
