There are also Canadian airports such as Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal to consider if you are going to make more of a holiday of it, but they won't be cheaper than the USA airports.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Looks like plan is going out to Boston from London 28th July, returning 4th August - son pretty sure he will be able to come with me, just wants to check his work schedule.
Staying in Boston a couple of nights then on to Remsen, not sure how yet, either by train or driving. Returning to Boston to fly back.0 -

or coming back on same day via Boston will cost you £520.00
If you have neve rbeen to the USA maybe nice to come back from New York arriving on the train and seeing the sights for a few hours !
Statue of Liberty,Empire state building,Chrysler building !
could turn it into a trip and a half to remember rather than a trip to remember
I am sure markymoo will work out some more options for you

Thanks guys, I really am very grateful. Im trying to find the train details from Boston at the moment
Son reckons he can probably get the time off but may be one day less - so perhaps a day out later. Hmm. Oh son has just shouted out he has 22500 miles on virgin frequent flyers or something?
8 hours on a train may be a bit much or is it that interesting/worthwhile?0 -
I've never done a train in the USA.. so can't really comment.
8 Hours on a train to travel from BOS to Remsen, is longer than it'll take you to fly to BOS..
cheapest return flight to BOS is looking to be around £470, but the times are not the best (american airlines)
again, the multi city option with the flights to SYR might work out cheaper than paying £120ish for a flight or train...

Many thanks for everyones kind efforts but I just dont seem to be able to pull it altogether in the short time I have available for the trip - not to mention the escalating costs of high season travel and accommodation.
Ill have a look again in the morning when Im not so tired but its just beyond me at the moment.
Appreciated everyones kind help. x0 -
Right guys, just can I use you as a sounding board please.
How does this sound please.
Heathrow to JFK on 30 July (by Virgin) - transfer to Syracuse by plane (jetblue? about £30 each).
Land Syracuse about 4.30 p.m., get a hire car (Avis) to the wedding venue, about an hour away (where the brides parents are providing "cottages" for out of town guests).
30/31/1August (wedding) then leave on 2 August still with hire car go to Boston (about 4 half hours), drop off car at Logan airport.
Stay Boston, travelling to coast towns by train/bus until 5 August and return Boston/Heathrow.
Does that all sound doable for an old un? And any recommendations for inexpensive hotels in the right place in Boston please? Oh and as grown up son will be with me, would it be a bit "wierd" to book a double room with 2 double beds? as singles seem few and far between and of course cost a lot more?0
