Ive just received an invitation to a wedding in a town called Remsen, NY State. Im told that the nearest airport is Syracuse - 1 hour away. The wedding is 1 August.

Now Ive never been to the states in my life, let alone to this rather out of the way place?

Could anyone guide me on the best/most economical way of getting there please - flights and so on?

Many thanks.

    Hiya.

Syracuse is a short hop flight away from NYC, Washington, or Philadelphia

Fly out on the 31st July, come back on the Sunday 2nd, is a really quick trip, but includes a sat night stay for a cheaper flight.

i've done a quick search on kayak, but can do a bit more rooting around later on if you need more help, but doing a flight with one airline it's looking to be about £516, changing at Philadelphia

It might work out cheaper flying into an airport, then getting a different carrier to take you to syracuse...

I wish i had more time right now to help

That place really is out of the way! Expdia flights can get you there from London via Philadelphia to Syracuse for £550 ish return. I am guessing you would want to take a couple of weeks out to go there and come back?

Driving in the states couldn't be easier - big long wide roads, so hire a car from the airport and drive to Remsen from there.

You have some other options while you are there, Niagra Falls isn't too far West of Syracuse at Buffalo, and if you are feeling brave then you could cross the border to Canada and see Toronto.

I'll echo the other posts, that ask for more information.

Dates you actually want to travel on, so, that includes the length of time you're actually going to stay,

my quick search was 2 nights, which is just to go and come back, but if you want to spend a bit more time there, there can be different prices...

let us know some more details, and we'll be more than happy to help

Hi, well the details are - the wedding is on Saturday 1 August. Allowing for being ker nackered I guess Id have to get there a couple of days before. The flight would be from one of the London airports - Id much rather be direct as Im not a spring chicken and dont want the hassle of changing or sitting round in airports for hours.

Im just looking at sites and putting in London/Syracuse. But I didnt know if more travelled persons would say you need to look at it differently. Im not a confident driver so not sure if Id be up to driving over there on my own - big roads or not :) If Ive spent all that money and effort to get there Id certainly like a few days sightseeing though.
    Thanks guys.

Looks like best fares are all round the £500 mark and that involves one stop off. Some of the travel times are horrendous. Ive found a couple which add up to about 10 and half hours each way. Assuming the transfers work out as they should.

I lived in Syracuse for a while, regular flights in and out from NY,Boston and Washington. Continental go all the way through form London via Newark or Jet blue have a regular shuttle from JFK.
The trip from Syracuse to Remsen will take around 90 minutes.

For £484 per person US Airways Gatwick to Philadelphia onto Syracuse with a 3 hour lay over in Phillie ..but by the time you clear customs and Immigration and re check your bags will be down to a couple of hours.

On the return you fly down to Charlotte NC with a 6 hour lay over time to go downtown Charlotte grab some lunch and take in some of the southern Hospitality ;)

Driving to your location would be very easy from the airport ... straihght out andto the 90 thruway toll road a straight road to your location and on the return it is well sigh posted.

Upper state New york is a great place to visit in the summer loads of lakes and mountain ranges to view and loads of wildlife !
