Every aspect of that place makes me feel uneasy. What hideous taste and a rotten property
I remember when it fell into my Rightmove alerts and I thought, 'That's Tavistock....quite a favoured place. I could do good business there.' Then I saw how big a task it was, and there wasn't much land, so I moved swiftly on.
Looking at it tonight, I have to agree that it looks odd and their treatment of the exterior just emphasises that. Some stations can be lovely, though.0 -
the outdoor space was truly horrid, why didnt they have nice furniture and lots of pot plants etc? doesnt have to be expensive, as it is, it looks like a car park with a nasty pine table
and all that money to stay there, lots of much nicer places to stay - and cheaper
didnt warm to either of them.'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
i woke up in a soho door way a policeman knew my name He said "You can go sleep at home tonightIf you can get up and walk away".
I staggered back to the underground
And the breeze blew back my hair
I remember throwin' punches around
And preachin' from my chair

You did not miss much.
Very nihilistic.
The "sell your granny" salesman ended up pushing greenwash - there are a few of those about! So beware of "green" technology and "carbon footprints"..0 -
The idiots have put the prices up, so there's still availability during the peak summer season.
Porters Office - 2 rooms - 1 week from 14/8/09 - £1,250
Refreshment Hall - 3 rooms - 1 week from 14/8/09 - £1,450

With my £50 Lidl portable TV and £15 freeview box from Asda .. I don't think so.
You could watch it on iPlayer, it wasn't very good though. Badly edited and badly acted. I'm going to watch some Queer as Folk later instead so I can see Aidan Gillen act well and be sexy.:D0 -
Preferred the format of the programme of only doing 1 instead of 2 but this one was like watching Grand Designs.
They had potential to make it really superb but the end result was a complete dog and it would be like staying at your grans house for a week if the decor was anything to go by. Horrible place and I wouldn't pay £17 to stay there for a week, let alone £1700  Holidaymakers must have some serious taste issues though if the agents reckoned they could squeeze £30k of business out of it in peak. Unreal.

I'm, suprised no one has talked about the money yet, they made £14k the first year, minus expenses....... they said their mortgage was £4k a month.
The agencies said they could get £24k a year after their fees.
Doesn't work does it? Especially as they are supposed to be making two wages out of it.
And if they made so much profit from 12 BTL's, why have they now got a mortgage of £600k? Something is not right here.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Hi Rob,
Would I be right in thinking you are under 40?
As Beannie said at the beginning the tourist market for this edge-of-Dartmoor town has an ageing demographic profile - think "empty-nesters" (now known as boomerang kid households) rather than DINKY's or the bucket& spade brigade.
(We are still not quite sure why people, especially those in flats, have got rid of their carpets and put noisy plastic kitchen laminate on their floors ?)
The antiques are probably not cost effective; never mind the risk of them being nicked, even older people will damage them. When you are in a strange home, it is very easy to crash into things or put down something wet on a polished surface just because you are not used to the layout.0 -
I liked the idea, but thought the end result was awful and that smarmy bloke who thought he could get £1700 a week must be living in cloud cuckoo land.
And WHY did they not move the bathroom door??? What a mistake!
And the outside space was horrible too. Could have been beautiful.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
