Takes betwee 40 and 50 mins to get to the hospital from my house. Do I need to keep the milk cold or what do I do with it if I manage to express anything tonight?
Did the hospital give you any pots/syringes for it? If not, express it into one of your bottles once you've sterilised it - don't worry if it looks lost in the bottom of a big bottle, they'll syringe it outThe pots (50ml ones clear ones with a lilac top) can't be microwave sterilised (they shrink!) so probably best you check or cold water sterilise them.
Put the bottles in the fridge - in the main part, not on the door - then take it to the hospital in the morning in a cool bag with freezer blocks if you have them.
Also label up the bottles with Dylan's name and when (time and date) you expressed them and use a new bottle each time you try. Expressed milk can be used here in our Neonatal unit for 48 hours after expressed if kept in the fridge, or frozen for three months then used for 24 hours after defrosting. I have seen different times but these are the ones our unit use - might be something to do with the difference between early/poorly babies and on-time/well babiesIf Dylan's going to be in TNP for a few days, did the hospital freeze what you've already expressed? You might wanna give them a call to check if they want you to freeze it straight away if he's not going to need it for a while - am not sure what the time limits are with keeping it in the fridge THEN freezing it.
OH was in charge of renewing my hot flannels. Also doing it after a bath (sink right down to put your boobs in the warm water!) or a shower helps too. I wasn't asked to start expressing until about Day 3 and never thought I'd be able to do it but then the milk kicked in! Now that Rhys is older, I have to do it every three hours to maintain my supply - I'm not sure if it's similar with expressing colostrum in the early days though (was too drugged up on the morphine to remember!).

elle, did you start with hand manual or electric pump? I got the little bit that there was by hand, but am now not getting anything with hand or manual pump. The electric one in the hospital made my nipple bleed
I never asked if they froze the first lot I sent up or not, must ask that tomorrow !!
Will probably be on over the weekend at some point
Am going to try to get some sleep as I havent had any since Tuesday night !!
