jha - why on earth would they ask you that? you don't have to be a British citizen/perm resident to have access to NHS. I've never even shown my passport to a soul much less been questioned on my visa status (granted, it probably helps that I'm white :rolleyes:) in any medical situation.

aless - when I worked in the antenatal clinic we had to ask the ladies if they had been in the UK for the last 12 months. If they hadn't that meant they had to pay for their treatment.
