Ok gang I seriously need to rant (sorry!) or I'm going to end up with a bump under my patio...
Just when I'm getting a handle on things OH has decided not only to join a footie team (cue spending over £100 on kit alone this month..)he's just come back asking for some cash where he's been down the pub..oh and for subs!!!
This after deciding he's going to try to finish our garden....and his trip out 'with the lads' next week..* cue screaming noises and sound of head being hit against brick wall*..
Any suggestions gratefully recieved on how to make him see sense??
I have worked my butt off, again(!) to get us straight and he does it everytime without fail failing that is anyone any good at digging :rotfl:

right thats it D & DD get him on here - well sort him out for you !
tell him if he wants to do these things he will have to earn the extra to pay for them - has he got any golf clubs to sell ? Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
Hi D&DD
oooooooohhh I feel cross for you!! I've got a spade and will help you dig :rotfl:
It must be so frustrating, i am so lucky that my OH does not spend!
Sorry can't help with any idea's but the patio is a good one!!!
((big hugs))0 -
I agree with opps a daisy, if he wants to spend extra he has to earn extra. my husband has always done this without being asked because then he says his spending is guilt free. When he wants a new thing for the pc he hunts around for eveything and anything he can sell on ebay or he'll work a couple of hours overtime, so try this. If not I am great with a spade and also have quite a few paving slabs if you need them :rotfl: .May 2015 £10 a day currently £2080

If OH is intent on working on the garden, could you not get him to dig the hole himself? Tell him you've decided you want a pond or somethingHighest Debt (Sept 04) -> £41,300Debt Free - August 2006!!

Why not just go along with it, smile and tell him of course he can have his footie kit and spending money for the trip. All you ask in return is 15 minutes of his time to help you with some paperwork to work out the maximum amount of money you can give him to enjoy himself. Doubtless he'll be eager and this is where the plan begins.
When you both sit down at the computer, get him to start making a spreadsheet and read to him all your income and outgoings (basically get him to recreate your SOA in Excel) and then as he's going along and realises things don't add up, maybe he'll see the light. Otherwise maybe a guilt trip will set in as he realises he's asking you for the impossile but you're happy to do it for him. He might change his mind then?
Failing that, at the end of the exercise, you can tell him his spending money is -£462.11 or something, and you take credit and debit cards0 -
I have the same problem here, OH plays footie once a week (although he doesn't need to buy his own kit) he still has to pay subs and then a "quick" pint after for team morale!!! Then he plays rugby once a week too and again no he doesnt have to pay for a "kit" but he does have to pay for all protective gear himself (headguard, gum shield, shoulder pads etc etc) and then on top of that is the subs again and another quick pint after. It dont seem bad when you say it is only £10 per week on each sport but it soon adds up to £80 per month!!!!!! which is a lot when you are on a budget and you have even stopped yourself having a magazine or newspaper!!!!!
OK rant over0 -
Why don't you copy your signature in big letters on A4 paper and post all over the house, so everywhere he turns he can see the debt to the full extent (the bottom line figure should be the biggest figure he can read) and then it might just sink in that he can't afford to go to footie!!
Alternatively, turn up at his footie match and stand on the touch line shouting your head off - (in mutual support, of course) - hopefully after the first week he will be soooo embarrassed that he won't want to go again :rotfl:When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0 -
Hahaha that should go on the Extreme MoneySaving thread under "Money saving mind games" lol0
