Scarborough Investments Direct 2.76% - where can you apply?

This market leading rate for instant access was publicised at the weekend - but I can't work out how to apply for it. Has anyone had any success?

Where was this advertised? There is no Scarborough Building Society now, it was taken over by the Skipton a couple of months ago. Scarborough Investments Direct looks after the accounts of people who had postal accounts with the Scarborough, but I don't think you can open new accounts with them. There is no mention of this account on the Skipton website.

It was also announced on emoneyfacts last week - see this page - but I cannot see it anywhere on the Skipton website. All I can find is this page saying...
Scarborough Direct will remain open for all Scarborough Investments Direct customers.
The team can still process your transactions or help you with any queries you may have regarding your account. However, any correspondance you receive from us may look slightly different.

If you go to the Skipton website, click on the green header (Savings & Investments). Go to the column on the left hand side of the page it brings up. Look for the second green header in this column which is headed "Savings & Investment Tools". The third box below it is headed "Scarborough Investments Direct".

It took me a long time to find it. You cannot open the account online. You have to phone them on 0845 458 4522. They were very helpful when I rang.

    Hope this helps.

From the contact number (as the link doesn't work) you mean Akbank which is EEA authorised, so falls under the Dutch depositor compensation scheme, like ING, rather than the FSCS.
  • This account is now in our Savings Guide.

Yes it is Akbank. The link worked when I posted. I don't know why it comes up as it does now.

Is it because it was off Virgin Media contact. Why mods should class that as spamming is beyond me, Virgin use MS.com

What protection do UK residents get from Dutch protection scheme.

The article refers to ING Direct but the cover would be the same for any Dutch authorised bank.
    ING Direct.

The mammoth Dutch savings bank, which also took control of Kaupthing Edge, is covered by the Dutch compensation scheme, which has a limit of €100,000 Euros. In the unlikely event it went bust, you would be entirely reliant on the Netherlands government.

I assume that Alana's post refers to the Scarborough account - it's 3rd, after Ulster Bank & Investec here

<Edit> Links to the Money Supermarket site always direct you to the main page, they don't retain search results - nothing to do with the MSE mods or Virgin, etc.
