Ok , iwas just thinking about this. It is common knowledge and supermarkets even admit it that milk and bread are usually "loss leaders", they openly say, they make thier milk cheaper than what it costs tp produce and get into the shops, so that people like "us" JUST pop in for milk, and then come out with extra stuff.

Earwig, can i give you a kick up the bum?! Have that flan tonight, and dont you dare order that takeaway. That will be the achievement! DOnt YOU DARE throw them in the bin!! If Im thinking, ill bin that, I envisage chucking a £2 coin in the bin, or whatever. Might help you too xxxx

Earwig at least stick the flan in the freezer rather than chuck it if you aren't going to fancy it later ;) I so have the same problem as you lot so I can't really preach :rotfl: I've just gone back to online shopping again as the store is just too tempting

There is NO WAY you can justify spending money on a takeaway when you have got food for tonight in the fridge. Why are you even thinking about it? Buying the flans wasn't a big problem, but throwing them away would be.
  • Hi earwig

I haven't read the whole of this thread, sorry, but just looking at what you bought this morning it looks to me like you can't resist it if you think it's a bargain.

One thing someone posted on here a while ago and I try to keep in mind is:

IF YOU DIDN'T NEED IT AT FULL PRICE YOU DON'T NEED IT A HALF PRICE!

(This is same with the BOGOFS - you've bought things you don't need because they were on offer).

I used to do this (up until a couple of months ago!)

I'd go shopping with the intention of just getting milk, bread and cereal (for example) and would come out of the supermarket £60 lighter!

'Ohhhh BOGOF, I'll have them' 'they are cheap, i'll have them' 'mmmm cake on offer, i'll have 3 of them' <<< That was me

Now I do one main shop a month and stock the freezer up.

For anything else, I send OH.

Men - straight in, straight out

Women - straight in, come out an hour later having got a trolley full.

If you have a hubby/OH/BF, send HIM shopping and you will never overspend again! :money:

So true. We have a pot of copper in the kitchen, so if we need a pint of milk out of that I count the exact money and send OH with the coppper. Trying to spend over a quid in coppers pretty embarrasing and hassley, so I send OH with 40p and milks all he comes back with.

    My few tips are

We use a milkman and that saves any trips for milk.

We also have stopped shopping at most major supermarkets; we do a monthly shop at aldi to get the basics like fruit juice and tinned stuff. And then we top up fruit, veg and meat from local shops. I now would never by any meat esp. sausages from supermarkets; the quality is so much better from the butchers. We are lucky as we near a small town with 4 butchers/2 fruit and veg shops and two bakers (the town is full of old people) and the other thing on our side is its 20 miles to a supermarket in any direction so it makes it difficult to pop in but used to mean we spent far to much when we did visit.

We have found that meat fruit veg and bread is a cheap from local shops as the supermarket or not much more expensive but their is a massive quality difference. Its only the basics which seem to cost loads in the local co-op or spar

Earwig, have you got this written down on paper or can you print it off & Stick on your fridge or round the kitchen

say you have a flan tonight? What will you have with it? SAY, corn cobs & chips?
When something has ran out ( ie one of the flans) scribble it out n the fridge.

Then after tea tonight, you could look down the list and think, whats going to go off first? Maybe the bread rolls for example, so what can you make with those? Burgers & chips, which youve got, maybe another corn? Or a turkey stirfry with sweet & sour sauce?

I notice you havent got any potatoes or fruit & veg in? Is this right or haveyou forgot to list it? Saying that, you have LOADS in there, and I reckon you can get by for a week with only using up whats in , giving you space in your freezer for milk & bread.

PLenty of treats there as well,is it you buying them and them not being eaten. You have a good 2 weeks worth there, dont buy more when you have SO much in!!
