    Fuji Finepix A170 £49.99 delivered
Budget point & click with 10 megapixel sensor

An oldie-but-goodie, this £50 Fuji from Amazon* does the basics well, so if you're looking for a cheap holiday snapper it's a good choice. It focuses on simple operation, though it still offers auto face detection and red eye reduction so pictures don't suffer.
On the downside, it chews through AA batteries pretty quickly, so best to invest in some rechargeables if you'll use it a lot, and it responds a touch slowly when you click the shutter.

Can recommend this camera as a basic but functional model, bought for my daughter at Xmas.

Re: batteries - we buy Energiser Lithium AAs; which are more expensive than standard batteries but have a MUCH longer life without the faff of re-charging. They are often on BOGOF at Argos.
  • have a look on ebay ! item number 330449182903 and 250661962103

The Fuji A170 in the newsletter is also £50 at Asda including a leather case & 2GB memory - home delivery is £4.95 but you can pick up in-store.
They have already sold out once in the last few days though!

Only available for a short while from last week is the Traveller XS400 from ALDI stores. There are some left at £69.99. This is a really cute ultra light compact 12MP camera that seems to have everything including face detection, smile detection, intelligent auto and even 720p HD video! All accessories are included (case 2GB card, and even a three year warranty)!

See aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_14532.htm or look at the traveler-service.com/uk website for details.

The build quality of this item seems good and it’s even available in other colours (for the same price).

Although the selection screens look a bit cartoony, pictures look good (I’ve been used to high quality 3 MP images before). The HD video function doesn’t allow zoom while recording, but its best to do that before you shoot with video anyway. Even expensive cameras can’t zoom that well on so called HD video.

It’s certainly better than nothing and seems OK for short video clips. Basically you can’t go wrong at the price. Remember it’s not the camera you are investing in, it’s the resultant pictures. Optics now are so good that even small mobile phone lenses are capable of producing high quality images.

Set a lens at mid zoom point and you’d be hard pushed to tell the difference between an image shot on this and any other high quality camera if normally viewing on a good monitor or just printing at less than A4 size. Why waste and invest in technology that is fast moving, when you can do a job now and even buy the next one that comes along in a few years?
  • Hmm, Traveller.. that well known camera producing company. Most likely an import from China with a plastic /bottle cap lens.

Why does your post read like marketing material ?

Don't come any cheaper than the Vivitar 10 mp camera in Asda for £34.99.

The only downside is that they use AA batteries NEVER use ordinary AA batteries, buy the camera batteries and they will last much longer!!!

Wrong!! I have a Panasonic Lumix ZX1 I have just bought. From the test footage when I zoomed in the quality was superb with no pixellation whilst zooming whatsoever. OK it was £130 to but but its reviews are superb and when you search youtube for actual footage you can see the quality,

Currys have been having a clearance! I would think you bargain hunters would have noticed but about 2 weeks ago I snapped up the Fujifilm finepix Z35 in pink for £30!

Couldnt believe it, its simple yet does everything I need it for and its 10 megapixel.

It's all down to whats left in stock so not sure if there would be many bargains now! but still worth a look ...

Check your sticker and it might read Japan. Traveler is actually a European (German) brand, well known over there. Also, Aldi is a German based company, so it would make sense its brands come out of the European market. They have been around in Germany (Aldi's) since the 1920s. They would not have survived this long selling substandard merchandise.

Traveler just isn't a household word in the US or UK (Yet!). Aldi is very good about taking back malfunctioning merchandise if you keep the receipt. Hell you can even return the product for a refund in a short time if unhappy too!

Why does my post sound like marketing material? Just because you don't believe in something it doesn't mean that it is not true. One art of money saving is to remove yourself from the stigma of branding.

Beyond the surface you might find value that just oozes quality beyond belief, at least comparing what you have actually paid, with what you actually end up with. - Loads of images, nothing more.

I couldn’t believe that the build quality of the traveller XS400 compared to that of a Panasonic lumix! Did some more research and it appears that the traveller cameras are in fact rebadged ROLLEIs. Rollei is a legend camera trademark at their prime time. The new range of Rollei products put German excellence in technology, design and build quality in your hands, for a very Japanese price.
