Purely personal opinion - I've never had good results from a Fuji, even the so called quality ones.
It's really worth paying a bit more, Canon Ixus is about £150, but compared to the cheaper ones, it's absolutely stunning.

Have owned Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Fuji cameras and the Fuji is by far the best of the lot (I still have it and use it regularly). When a family member bought a Fuji F31fd I was so impressed with the photos from it (even though I had a Nikon already) that I went out and bought one for myself. Can't speak for other Fuji models but most of the reviews here are also positive: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fuji-FinePix-F31fd-Digital-Camera/dp/B000L9SCIW

Sadly that model is long since discontinued. :(

Could anyone help me with a question on the time between taking each photograph?
I have a Fujifilm, Finepix A500 and it takes an age to take the next photo.
I would like to be able to keep taking photos one after the other quickly to catch a good photo while the little one is happy to pose!
At the minute by the time the camera green light is back on I have missed the moment.
    thank you

  • Yesterday at Currys and Dixons online they were advertising the Canon A480 for 59.99 in silver for free home delivery. Don't know whether this will go up now Argos offer is over.
  • Has the Canon PowerShot A480 deal ended because argos price is still £99?

I've got a panasonic lumix like a DMC G1 (not sure of exact model) It's a few years old now but I love it.

The only problem is - it's a bit too big for taking to parties etc so I'm looking for something small that I can carry around with me but I still want a decent camera - any recomendations?
I'm really into my photos and editing them etc so compact but good is the key. I also need one with a rechargeable battery.

Been looking at the panasonic lumix 10.1 mp one that's £90 in argos.
Cat no 559/2771 (can't post links)
Am I missing anything in this price/spec range because I can't see past a panasonic?

Although the F31fd was a good camera and did get good reviews (although if you compare with images from Nikon and Canon it certainly wasn't as good), in the main unfortunately I can't agree, especially with my professional photographer hat on. I often choose and recommend compacts for people. I always keep a small compact as well as my pro DSLRs for quick snaps when out and about (I've owned Epsons, Fujis, Nikons, Canons etc).

Fuji in general at any price-point make inferior cameras as do Olympus, Kodak etc. Whereas: Canon, Nikon and Panasonic make far and away the best cameras in most price mosts, compacts (Canon Ixus unbeatable as all the reviews agree), Bridge (Panny Lumux, Canon G series,) Consumer DSLR (Canon, Nikon) Pro DSLR (Canon, Nikon).

Sony often come up with a star camera such as the Alpha series, but for consistency and companies that have a long heritage in camera technology Canon and Nikon would always be my first port of call, with Panasonic an extra for compact/bridge.

My Dad owns a Fuji and Canon at the moment (former against my advice), the Fujifilm's picture quality is appalling, it was on offer somewhere, reduced to clear, massive artefacting in the images. Also it eats AA batteries for breakfast.

I'd suggest anyone looking to buy, reads the expert reviews in magazines such as What Digital Camera (after all they test a group against each other, and are much better to take advice from than an internet forum!), dpreview.com for the absolutely technical reviews etc.
  • I am looking for a cheap digital camera which takes a decent picture when off to Australia and New Zealand in a few weeks( away for 6 weeks and travelling a lot ) - I don't want to take my expensive canon because I will be staying in youth hostels and camping so would prefer something that won't upset the trip if it goes missing - although i am not planning this to happen ( i can take out the card to protect any pictures ) also needs to be practical when using batteries and excess to carry.

Any suggestions - I'd like to bring back picture memories of the trip with pictures that are good - so an all round camera for a person with an interest but minimum knowledge in cameras at a price for if its lost or stolen.
Any links or suggestions would be appreciated

(did look at the argos camera in the tips and was could not get on the argos site last night - this morning retailing at 129.99 at my local store )

    Thank you
