I am venturing up North for a few days in Aberdeen from tomorrow, love the countryside round Aberdeen but the city is like any other main toon.
Buses are cheaper and apart from the Mancunian/Aberdonian babelfish I quite like going there.I would like to live in Theory, because everything works there0 -

I think you will find that Aberdeen bus fares are the dearest in Scotland.Like good food and drink?
Try Hotel Chocolat and Baileys.

Tell me about it. I live 40 miles away and if my hubby and myself were to go there it would cost us almost £30 return. Taking the car is much cheaper!Like good food and drink?

he he he, i've just discovered this thread. aw feels like i'm home again.
i moved down to essex about a year ago to live with my OH. do miss scotland, but i like that theres lots to do when we go into london (want to win the lottery so we can buy a house in each place)
i've been teaching my OH little words and expressions, like "messages" - food shopping - first few times said it he was a bit stumped though!! also no they dont say "suppers" when you have fish and chips. And they dont have white pudding - aw i love that stuff. my mum always brings me some frozen ones down when she comes. (mm hungry now!!)
good thing about being down here is the warmth. if i could move the nice weather up to scotland, i'd move back up - no probs!! in a few years, global warming might make scotland warm though!!:heartsmil Getting Married 11th June 2011 to the lovely Graham:heartsmilWedding/honeymoon fund so far £69000 -
oh yeh, meant to say, i used to be a barmaid up the glens (glen clova). i always used to get asked for a nip. (e.g i'll have a nip of whisky). when i said this to my OH, he didnt know what a nip was. down here i think they just use single or double for measures!! it's not until you move out of scotland, that you realise the words you are using are really scottish. i try to keep up all my scottsh words tho - and teach the OH them, so when we move back to scotland, he'll know what everyone is going on about lol!!!
also, he was amazed when i took him into the local chippy, and on the menu were battered pizzas, battered burgers etc. he thought the rumour of scots battering everything was a myth ha ha:heartsmil Getting Married 11th June 2011 to the lovely Graham:heartsmilWedding/honeymoon fund so far £69000 -

I was watching a TV programme once and there was this girl who had just placed an order for a mars bar from the chippy. When it came she asked for vinegar and sauce on it. The you saw her eating it while it was smothered in tomato sauce. :eek:0 -
ew. you know, i have never asked for one of them in my 24 years of living in scotland! but i was a chef for 5 years, and one night, alone in the kitchen, i had some batter made up, so i got hold of a mars bar and gave it a wee fry up. it was quite nice, not sure it would be goodwith sauce on i ew. might be nice with ice cream mmm:heartsmil Getting Married 11th June 2011 to the lovely Graham:heartsmilWedding/honeymoon fund so far £69000

Was in Glasgow today and this is on the menu at the chippie at the Barras but have never met anyone who has tried it. A bit too gross for most of us I think.
Haven't read through full thread but thought I would add that Clydebank has a Next Clearance and TK Maxx in the retail park at the rear of the shopping centre. It is quite a good shopping centre with a reasonable mix of shops like Peacocks, Primark and Dunnes to name a few. Sure there will be a website to check it out.0 -
My son had one once, just to try it. He said it was okay. Never had the urge myself though.0
