  • Boo,

Cheers for the info on Curreency excahnge
I've already got ma travellers cheques.
Is it still easy enough to get these cashed.
I'm waiting on a reply back form the Karbel hotel ( emailed them this morning )

Easytiger66 - i was going to email the hotel and ask that i don't get a ground floor room.
Is this a good idea or should i wait till i get there

Oh, what is the story with duty coming back home.
    what is your alcohol/cigarette allowance

    Cheers
  • I stayed at the Karbel Sun (not sure if its the same one) but we emailed them asking for a ground flor room as my Gran doesnt do steps very well, and it was al arranged when we got there, so I would email them

  • Hi Chillymonster,

Before we got there i was panicking that we might get the so called dungeon rooms. I waited til' i got there and got a perfectly decent room. In a couple of blocks you will get dungeon, ground, first and second floors. If i remember rightly the 2 blocks with the view of the pool they call the White Pool have the dungeon rooms. If you are worried just ask for a high floor,i may do the same next year. The staff are perfectly amenable and if people need to change the room or need help in anyway they will go out of there way to help.
Have a great time,it would be too hot for me this time of year.
  • I always ask for a top floor and always get one.
The Karbel sun is the sister hotel.

Hi guys, just wondered how you take your money to this area? When we went to icemeler, we took travellers cheques, but have been told is an outdated way of taking travel money now.....???? ive been told the best way to take money now is to just use ya debit card and withdraw, but my bank charges are 4.75%. Does anyone else just take a debit card? And do you know if there are plenty of ATM machines int he area? does anyone know how much they charge for exchanging travellers cheques? It may be worth just taking debit card if the charge for tc's is high too.....please help!

I was there last year and used my debit card. There are loads of ATM machines and was by far the easiest way of getting money. Remember that sterling is widely accepted in Turkey as well as lira and the euro.

We took some sterling and changed that over there. There's plenty of shops, bars and restaurants that will change money for you and they display the rates outside.

After that I used my card in the ATM machine. There are a number of ATM's in Olu Deniz and I never had a problem getting money.

We like it there so much, we've just booked up to go back again next year :D
Here I go again on my own....

Thanks a lot both of you : )

I think we will take a small amount of lira for the firsst couple of days we're there, and then use the atm machine. Just a bit scary if something goes wrong and cant end up using the atm anywhere, then stuck with no cash! Thats why was condsidering travellers cheques. And also if we take out for example £1000 from an atm, that will end up charging us about £47.

Cant wait to go, only 9 more sleeps to go!!! yipeeeeeeee

Why don't you take the cash & put it in the safe box in your room?

    Thats what we do.
