Oludeniz - Turkey

Options
Hello all,

Me and OH went to Turkey in 2006, Icemeler, OH wants to go to back to Turkey this year, Septmeber time, to Olu deniz.

Has anyone been there, and what are your opinions? Can anyone recommend a decent hotel? We were thinking of going AI, but decided to go b&b or SC as we like to get out and go to different restaurants. On tripadvisor, some ppls comments are that the hotel owners are funny with you if you dont stay at their restaurant to eat.....!

Also, anyone been stayed in Fethiye? Would consider staying there too.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated, thanks.

Me and my DF went to Olu Deniz a few years ago and loved it. Would defo go self catering or B&B as there are some lovely restaurants and the food is so nice although the portion sizes are huge! I cant quite remember where we stayed but the hotel seemed to be on the main strip where the other hotels were. Im glad we didnt go to Hisaranou (sp) which is further up the hill from Olu Deniz as it looked so tacky when we drove through.
I went to Olu Deniz on recomendation from a colleague and was very pleased. We went to Fethiye to go diving and it seemed ok.
I wouldnt say its ideal for someone looking for a clubbing holiday.
    Hope that helps.

I've been to olu Deniz 3 times and stayed at :

Hotel sun city - 2 mins from beach and resort centre - nice hotel, good food & good value for money, all inclusive, medium sized hotel.

Hotel Karbel - Half board hotel- when we went it was exceptional value for money - and the food was the brilliant, again it was very close to resort centre & less than 5 mins from beach, the only thing that would put me off going again was the fact that the pool was crowded and very noisy - but we used its sister hotels pool and had it to ourselves most days !!!

Olu Deniz Resort Hotel - Another great AI hotel, right on the beach, but quite expensive.

I'd return to any of the above -But as Claires said, there are some great places to eat out and its still quite cheap compared to the Euro zone.

    Hope this helps

Thanks guys. No were not wanting a clubbing hol, want a nice relaxing quietish holiday with option of travelling into a nice town....olu deniz ive been told is just that, hope they are right!

Yes, we are going to go b&b or SC. There are a couple of hotels with good reviews, Mavruka hotel, and Belechan hotel. Both supposed to be close to olu deniz centre. Ive looked at some hotels like The leytur, says its in olu deniz, but checked it on the map and its in the middle of Fethiye!!

Have you heard of any of these hotels? Would def stay in olu deniz resort hotel if going AI. The montana pine hotel looks lovely, but is exp compared to other b&bs.

I went to LykiaWorld in Oludeniz about 5 years ago and had a great trip. I'm thinking of going back actually. The only reason I've not been again is because I went with my ex :)

I loved the resort but absolutely hated the turkish market, I was being grabbed in all directions by people trying to sell me their stuff, I went back to the resort with bruises.

Yes toto, had the same problem in icemeler, ppl om the streets beckoning you into their shop, got fed up in the end and ended up walking passed them without acknowledgment! I know thats harsh but when you say no thank you no thank you 100 times a day, gets a bit annoying!

Olu deniz is a nice quite town with a regular dolmus service that will get you out and about to nearby towns.

The montana pine resort looks great but it isn't near the centre or beach - its situated up a steep hill away from every thing else and IMO you'd need to get a taxi into town. (but it does look wonderfully peaceful)

    I love Olu.
If you want B&B luxury, have you thought about the Oyster Residence? BEACH FRONT There is another similar called the Jade Residence (I think), Sovereign book.
If you want a great AI, the Belzicike (sp?) Beach Hotel, BEACH FRONT Thompsons & Portlands books.

Fethiye is very much a working town. A nice AI not to far from there is the leetoonia
A luxury FB in that area is Hillside (Thomas Cook).

Lots of Hotels in Fetyhie, Hisaronou & Olu seem a bit confused about where they are, check carefully first.

I was in Olu last year and it was lovely. It is a little bit touristy but by that I mean souvenir shops and english breakfasts. Definitely not lager loutish or irish pubs though - they just saw the demand for the 'full english' I guess. Don't imagine that it's brash in any way though, but bear in mind it is a purpose built resort.

Having said the above it has a cosmopolitan feel to it - walking along the promenade sea front at night Help Bar often have light and fire shows going on and during the day just lying/sitting there watching the paragliders come down is just wonderful.

It has a lovely atmosphere about it but is still quite quiet. You have the option of going up to Hisaronu where it is lively at night.

AI is probably a good idea if you can get a good price because you can still go out to eat without breaking the bank on at least a couple of occasions.

I stayed at Mavi Belce which was basic but cheap, very clean and lovely staff. Most of the hotels in Olu itself have good reviews, I guess you just need to assess your level of comfort. Any hotel based in Olu itself is near the beach and the restaurants and bars as it is a small resort. Anywhere in Ovacik or Hisaronu you will need to use Dolmus/taxi. Montana Pine resort great reviews and looks lovely but you need to factor in costs of getting out and about.

Fethiye nice for trips but is a working town and not somewhere I would base myself for the holiday (unless I had the dosh for Club Letoonia which I really fancy the look of!).

I'm off to Dalyan this year - another very pretty less commercialised place, followed by a week on a gulet.
