Although this is now going off topic, I mentioned this to try to show that Opera is not as rubbish as a previous poster implied. I admit I may have gone a bit too far - have edited my original post.

No need for all that, I was only sayin' :D

Browsers such as Safari have had this for a year now. As a web developer I would always suggest to people to ditch IE (all versions, especially 6).

If you like the look and feel of IE and don't want to change too much then switch to FireFox 3, FF is compaitble with all websites too so you wont have any problems with internet banking, online shopping etc...
If you want fast browsing and amazing looks switch to Safari.
If you want super fast browsing and don't mind awful looks then switch to Google Chrome.
    Avoid Opera at all costs.

    I will second the above!

    Just dont use Internet Explorer!!

That's not normal, try it with no add-ons and see how it runs.

i know i will look thick but what do you mean by add ons exactly? there is a google toolbar but that has always been there since i got the pc. i never had problems with ie7.

That's one example of an add-on right there. You can run IE8 without add-ons using the shortcut provided, but you can also disable them individually using the Manage Add-ons feature.

I tried in on my XP system last week and it kept crashing with Blue Screen Of Death. Uninstalled it and reverted to IE7, all works fine again!

Some other people have had problems too, seems mainly related to add-ons though (the included ones), see the comments on this blog:
