I have a friend who is with Abbey (he's younger than me) and he's got a Visa debit card, which works the same as a credit card - in that it's valid everywhere credit cards are - this is what I'm after.
This country, I don't buy from here much
Aye, I know I can't get a credit card til 18, I'm looking for a debit card.
Hi!
I'm not sure if this will help, but my DD (14) banks with Barclays and has a Visa Debit card. You should be able to get one too as your under 18. She can check balance etc online and buys stuff on the internet etc as you do.

Natwest are doing away with the maestro/solo card in June/July and replacing it with a visa debit card.
Yay about time. I find the solo/maestro combination a pain as it isn't as widely accepted as visa debit in the US. Don't have problems using it over here though.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
I can't find anything to substantiate this. Can anyone find an article from Natwest themselves that says they are replacing solo?0

If they are replacing solo, that'll save me from switching. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122160215431345041.html appears to suggest this is legitimate, I'll call later today and see if they can tell me when this is going to happen0

Am I the only person on this forum that actually prefers a Maestro Debit Card to a Visa Debit Card?
Why, I hear you say..
Well Maestro make no surcharge when buying foreign currency online, Visa do make a surcharge, so Visa isn't all that wonderful.
Once they have a total monopoly, expect more of these spurious charges.:rolleyes:0 -

I'd rather be able to use my card outside of the UK and pay for exchanging my money than not be able to use it at all0 -

I much prefer to fill in forms online, it gives me a record and it's impossible for someone to misinterpret what I want.
I will however phone tomorrow and see what they say, I'll just ask for some information on the whole process and what they expect of me, then I can fill in online properly. I don't know why I didn't think of that at first, too tired
Just call them and ask if you can do an average for the year. That should placate them. If you're applying for credit just make sure that you ensure you don't apply for more than you KNOW you could comfortably pay off.

The natwest/rbs switch is happening but no definate date as been set yet.
It should start happening from june/july 2009 onwards as RBS contract runs out with Maestro at the end of 2010.
There is a link thats associated with visa but i cant post it on here as it restricts me being a newbie.
If you want the link send me a private message and ill be happy to send onto you.
If anyone who isnt a newbie can post it the forum then that would be great.
