I'm pretty sure that national rail do accept solo cards now, i know they never used to but i noticed a few months back that it was listed at one of the self serve ticket machines as one of the card payment methods you can use. I do still have a solo card for my savings account with natwest, and i have to say, ive not found any place that doesn't offer solo payments nowadays. The only place i know that doesn't accept solo is WH Smith, but that may have changed since its been about 7 years since i last stepped foot in a branch.

Seeya23, how did you hear that natwest are offering visa debit cards soon? I do hope this is the case as it will be handy to have some sort of visa card (not that i've had any problems using my maestro or mastercard anywhere).
  • Applying for an account with abbey (visa) and some of these questions are stupid. I select that I'm self employed and they ask me for my employers telephone number, they then ask for my monthly income without the option to specify that it varies, I work freelance, I don't want to enter the wrong number and mislead them, if I did what sort of problems could it cause? Some months I can be doing £300, some it can be £1000.

    Silly online applications.

Why not ring them and do the application over the phone, or go into a branch?

Natwest do offer Maestro with CG feature from 16 onwards. I had one of these cards. I filled in a form, the branch manager then had to review it and then they issued me with it. Also HSBC cave me a £100 CGC at 16 :D HTH

as pathetic as it sounds, I'm incredibly incapable of putting my point across with words and I'm extremely shy, I'll go in for an account with a card and come out with a new bicycle. I much prefer to fill in forms online, it gives me a record and it's impossible for someone to misinterpret what I want.

I will however phone tomorrow and see what they say, I'll just ask for some information on the whole process and what they expect of me, then I can fill in online properly. I don't know why I didn't think of that at first, too tired ;)

Good idea. Ask what you should put in for your employer/wage details and then do it online. Good luck! :D

    How old are you NOW?

I work for natwest and I can assure you it is not something we offer presently.

Natwest are doing away with the maestro/solo card in June/July and replacing it with a visa debit card.
