in Credit cards
Hi all,
I recently had a large fraudulent transaction on my aqua credit card. There was a payment made to Louis Vuitton London for just over £1000.00. I only realised this when my statement came through and of course, got straight on to the phone.
Aqua said they would look in to it and sent me new card so I thought it was sorted. However, a week ago I got a letter saying that the transaction was chip and pin- as in the fraudster had used my pin for the transaction!!!!- and that as such, I was liable for it!!!!!!!!!!
Now what I don't understand is how my pin was used, and more importantly, how my card was used physically as I STILL HAVE MY CARD ON ME! It was never stolen or anything and I still have the old one with me now.
I have wrote back to Aqua telling them to investigate properly as I can't possibly pay out such a large amount for a transaction which I never made. I am sick to my stomach with this, as I've had this card for about 4 years and never experienced fraud ever before on any card.
Nobody in my household could possibly have used the card because it is always kept in my purse.
Please please please help.
Many thanks

I am sorry I cannot help, but it sounds to me that you have been scammed by one of those card machines that steal the details? (sorry if that doesnt make sense?)

If your card issuer wont do anything about it, report it to the police as fraud.0

A shop like that will have CCTV - as I advised on another such case - get down there if needs be with the police and look at the CCTV.
I am struggling on this one - because they used chip and pin - unless your card co. are lying and it was a mail order/internet transaction or the like.
I have yet to hear of debit cards being cloned with the chip and pin part as well - perhaps someone can confirm0 -

You're right. The chip on the card cannot be cloned. It is encrypted to the highest standards and only the banks and those terminals can decrypt the information on it.We’ve had to remove your signature. I thought so - it seems the card co - must be lying.
This is an interesting one - I cannot put my finger on what has happened.0 -
A few weeks ago you said you didnt have any credit facilities. In fact, you said you were thinking about applying for an aqua card:Hi all!
Just a query- really hope someone can help me. I currently have no credit but am wanting to build up a rating as I'd like to get a mortgage in approximately 2/3 years (I am due to graduate this year and have a job offer already). I have no student loan or credit card/ catalogue account etc- nada!
So, basically how do I start my rating off? I am due to open a bank account next week (Barclays Current Plus) but aside from this, I know little else about what to do. I thought the next step should be a credit card- and from reading here, I think I would be best off applying for a Vanquis/ Aqua card? However, as I have no credit history would they even accept me? I don't want to leave 'footprints' on my file if I won't be accepted.
Oops- almost forgot- I recently had the voting poll cards sent to my house but I didn't receive one and when I queried this with my council, they said I was never on the electoral roll  but I have been put on now, as of the 1st May- so I don't know how this would affect my rating.
Sorry for such a long post folks- but I really need some help as I truly have no idea how to go about this.
All help/ comments/ suggestions will be very much appreciate.
Many thanks

I wouldn't have thought they would lie about something like this. If they did, and get caught out, I'm sure there would be grave consequences for the credit card company. Who knows
It is possible though that the card was used in a dodgy shop/terminal. The police would be able to dertermine this if/when they investigate. We’ve had to remove your signature. Many situations - BUT none where they have cloned a chip and pin card - and used chip and pin to perform a transaction - if that technology was available to fraudsters the banks would be truly broke!:eek:0
