I know that if they brought a dog I'd feel pressured and probably end up saying yes to any dog they brought, simply because I'd feel bad saying no, since it would mean the dog returning to kennels.

I would feel the same! Good luck with your search, we found our second dog on dog pages when I was 'just looking':p

Please don't let distance and not driving put you off adopting a rescue dog. We don't drive and we adopted a dog from Many Tears in Wales http://www.!!!!!!!!!!!!!/manytearsrescue/dogslookingforhomes.htm They rehome all over the country, lots of dogs in foster, dogs are cat tested etc.

They have homecheckers all over the country and rescues that rehome nationwide will have so too.

We also adopted a cat from a rescue in Liverpool...and we live in the southern part of Hampshire! (and yes we have have many rescues here but there was just something about this cat that we couldn't let her go without seeing her!)

So please, don't let distance put you off, it might be a day of 'hassle' but life long companion and friendship afterwards.

If it were just me to consider it would'nt stop me, but as I said above, I'm my mothers carer, she really doesn't travel well. It's one thing taking myself off to see a dog, it's a complete other matter with her. It's just not something I'd even consider having her do unless the dog was 100% what we wanted. And as I said before, catch 22, we wouldn't know that until we saw the dog.

I have spotted a dog on freshfields dogpages thread, there's no mention of her having a home now, even though the listing was posted back in late January. Chances are she's probably gone, I've not idea how often the thread is updated. But I'll be calling them tomorrow to ask about her.

Xena is a little black staffie x girl around 3 years old smile.gif I have a feeling she is going to be in kennels for quite sometime err.gif (I hope I am wrong) the reason being she is black & a staffie x err.gif

Xena was handed into kennels as her owners said they could not afford to keep her err.gif They said she has lived with another dog & is housetrained. Xena loves her walks & the attention from staff & volunteers at the kennels smile.gif & she does seems to be a happy little dog. Yes Xena is only little almost 'pocket size'.

Please prove me wrong rolleyes.gif & consider this girl.

If you would like to meet Xena please contact Warrington RSPCA Animal Centre, Slutchers Lane, Warrington tel 01925 632944 open each day 12 - 4 pm except Tuesdays.

The dog is adorable, sadly the advert says he'd prefer a home with no children under 5 so it rules us out. I need a dog that is great with kids as my 2 year old nephew is here almost daily.

I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow anyway as I'm sure they're got other dogs, so thanks for the number.

Did you try Merseyside RGT http://www.adoptagreyhound.co.uk/home.htm
NorthWest RGT http://www.northwestrgt.com/gallery1.html and Greyhound gap http://www.greyhoundgap.org.uk/ home all over UK.
I know a local group found a cat friendly grey from a different area for a person looking to adopt as they didn't have any suitable at the time, so don't just go by whats on the website.

I think if you can't physically get to the rescue then you may have to accept that they will only be able to bring a couple of suitable dogs for you to choose from or perhaps just the 1 dog. Remember that the rescue wouldn't want you to take a dog in pity, they want it to work as much as you do. So if the dogs not for you its always better to say so sooner rather than later when they have filled its kennel.
My local grey group allows people to foster with intent or to have the hound for a weekend to see how they get on, so you might be able to arrange something similar.
