Which i have no problem with.

But would you employ someone who couldn't drive to be a chauffeur? No. Similarly someone who can't speak good English shouldn't work in a call centre.

but thats the companies fault if they employ someone who cant speak or understand english, you would have thought they companies would specify english to be understood and spoken to a certain extent

Would the recruitment not be handled locally? I can't see them all popping over to "Canada Square" for an interview....

Someone who has a "good" grasp of English but thinks that they are fluent interviewing someone who just about speaks it therefore thinking they are competent for the role.....

    Recipe for disaster.

I suggest that if someone does not want to conduct business with a foreign call centre, then change to a company that uses UK call centres, or at the very least complain to the company that has chosen to shed British jobs by exporting call centres abroad to save money for their shareholders.
It's not as easy as that, a lot of companies now have call centrea in foreign lands, also there is no point complaining, as all they tell you is some lame excuse.

I've read about 2 articles and seen a program where they have stated that graduates in India are refusing to go into call centre work ,or trying to get out of it because they see it as a dead end job with ridiculous working hours.

Therefore the call centres are now recruiting anyone who can speak enough English to read the scripts.

So don't be surprised if you start be directed to more call centres in other countries like the Philippines and South Africa.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

When I worked for a national security company, their call-centre was in Mumbai.

Even when the call-centre called me I could not understand the caller, and I knew what he was calling about!!!

And Sky call-centres are in Dunfermline and Livingstone. Dont think those places are in India???

I had to phone Nectar about missing bonus points, (lucky got an 0800 via say no to 0870) the call centre sounded like it was in India.
It was difficult to make the person understand my query. She was friendly enough BUT It was a bit like banging my head!!!

Yes I AM aware of the fact that Sky call centres are based in Livingstone and Dunfermline, when you get transferred to their 'technical department' you are transferred to an Indian call centre, I KNOW, because I have been transferred to them , in fact after several attempts trying to get my problem solved (including getting cut off three times) I had to ask to be put through to someone from a U.K. call centre.
