No disrespect, but
:eek::eek::eek:
I would quite happily live without electricity at all, but I need it for my business. We have a Rayburn for hot water and oil lamps throughout the house, but I do draw the line at using a Victorian sewing machine for the work I do.
I think I would have been happier as a Victorian farmer's wife :rotfl:Making magic with fabricLight travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.0 -

It's one thing to make the decision to not have a dishwasher and to wash by hand instead. But it's different to when you like having a dishwasher and regard hand washing dishes as yet one more chore you can do without in an already totally overworked life. Given the OP is clearly absolutely crushed under the amount of work she's having to do (unfairly, of course, but that's a different arguement) then is it worth it to her to shell out for a new dishwasher? Absolutely I say and she shouldn't be made to feel guilty or lazy about this by us OR her family.
I'm a SAHM and sod it, I love my dishwasher. I love having a car, a breadmaker, a washing machine, a hoover, a microwave, a Kenwood Chef and the thing that goes on it that peels the spuds for me. I don't get any real satisfaction from doing any of these things manually so save my energy for other things I do enjoy, like sewing (by machine), spinning (with a wheel), knitting (by hand!) and growing veg and fruit. I would hazard a guess that I'd make a pretty sucessful Victorian farmer's wife too, given that I can do lots of other things like make soap, pluck chickens and link sausages but also, the average life span of a woman back then was about 45, wasn't it? I think most of our great-grannies would have leapt at the chance of even half our labour saving devices tbh.Val.0
