Definitely just cause for strike action, i'm afraid. GO and buy paper plates and see how they get on with those - serve yours on the china and only wash that! :D

How about the rota idea but OH and step son can pay £1 or £2 to get out of their turn. The proceeds go into the new dishwasher fund.

  • Would you rather have less than £1 extra per day in savings from electric, or not wash up? Iykwim? I know what my answer would be - given the choice! I love my dishwasher!!
  • P.s. think of washing up Christmas dinner?! Eek :D

She who cooks does NOT wash up. It's the law! :)

Your menfolk either wash up or get you a new dishwasher. If the washing up hasn't been done when you go to cook the next dinner - well, oh dear me, you just can't do it, can you? When the washing up's been done, the cooking begins! It might not get through to them first time...........

    Do not give in.:A

  • Buy a new one then as soon as you can.

    Because you're worth it!:D

    What she said.

Get the OH to pay for one if he expects you to do all the work. Otherwise, go on strike!
  • If you are not getting a dishwasher I would pay yourself the £20 a month and then say rigth im off for a meal out with friends with your wages, leaving them to fend for themselves!

And ..... hand them the paper plate with a pack of crisps or something on the 1st night - when they look at you in dismay, reply with something like "if there's to be no washing up, then nothing can be used to cook a meal!";)

Or, say to OH, "when you cook tomorrow, I'll happily wash up".

Seriously though, if you're both at work all day, then I honestly think it's unreasonable to expect one person to to cook and wash up and that it should be shared.

How old is DSS - if old enough to help, he should (never did us any harm when we were growing up).

It's not a new dishwasher you need, it's a new OH or, failing that, a set of b**ls for you, as the american cousins would say. Why the heck are you doing all the cooking and cleaning and washing etc when there's two adults in the house and you both work full time? ? That's so beyond reasonable it's hard to advise where to start. A dishwasher seems the least of your worries tbh.
