I'm really lucky, my OH wouldn't dream of letting me wash up after Christmas dinner, or any dinner for that matter, he says as I cook it's only fair that he washes up. I do feel sorry for him with Christmas dinner as the kitchen looks like a bomb has hit it, lol!She who cooks does NOT wash up. It's the law!
I'm surprised more people haven't heard of that law, but it's true, lol!rising_from_the_ashes wrote: »Seriously though, if you're both at work all day, then I honestly think it's unreasonable to expect one person to to cook and wash up and that it should be shared.
How old is DSS - if old enough to help, he should (never did us any harm when we were growing up).
Totally agree, I only work part time so do most of the housework, but if I worked full time I'd expect OH to do a lot more around the house. He washes up every evening and after all meals at the weekend, also he'll do the vacuuming at the weekends, not quite up to my standards but at least he tries so I can't say too much, lol! My DS used to help me with the washing up when he was about 5 or 6, I bought him his own rubber gloves and he had to stand on a chair to do it but he quite enjoyed it, he would wash and I'd wipe or vice versa. As he got older the novelty wore off but it was good while it lasted, lol!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

I can't believe you are even thinking about not replacing it. Have you utterly taken leave of your senses? Have you seen a therapist as a matter of urgency? Is this the first time you have had these insane thoughts or have they happened before?

Tesco currently (in-store only as it's £20 more online) have a great dishwasher for £169. It is the 12 place setting full size type. I couldn't live without mine now after tea as everyone puts their bits in (kids included) and off it pops whilst we read with children, watch TV, do whatever.

I purposely decommissioned my dishwasher a few months ago and haven't looked back. I genuinely don't see the need for it now. My rule is this: The person who is cooking fills the washing up bowl with very hot water while waiting for food to finish, as close as possible to dishing up. Pots/pans then go straight in the bowl to soak while you eat. When you've finished, the one who's been watching Eastenders/playing Xbox while food was being cooked, washes up IMMEDIATELY. No scrubbing, no effort, and you're both all finished 10 minutes after eating.0

£4 a month on dishwasher tablets?
How often do you put it on? If that often to cost you £4 a month then I suppose that is hell of a lot of washing up and therefore dishwasher every time...

I was without dishwasher for 6 mhts when our broke and new one didn't work (wasn't installed properly) but OH was too lazy to call them out - as a punishment he did all the washing up every night. Still annoyed me seeing it on the tops all the time though!!0 -
She who cooks does NOT wash up. It's the law!
Your menfolk either wash up or get you a new dishwasher. If the washing up hasn't been done when you go to cook the next dinner - well, oh dear me, you just can't do it, can you? When the washing up's been done, the cooking begins! It might not get through to them first time...........
Do not give in.:A
It is!!! Without question!!0 -
I also gave my dishwasher away recently. We have decided that there were far too many electrical appliances in the house and the dishwasher was just one thing to go. Others include (but not limited to) the blender, breadmachine, electric toothbrush and the hairdryer. My life is much more fulfilling knowing I can do these things by hand instead of paying the electricity company just to save a few minutes of my day.
No, I'm not a SAHM, I work full time for an employer and also run a sucessful fledgling business as well, but I wouldn't go back to all the gadgets now.Making magic with fabricLight travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.0 -
