Just a personal note about the primark/supermarket thing,
Has anyone found that people would rather have supermarket items in the cakes, so that they can have a bigger cake which costs less?
I always have given people that option, and they`ve always chosen it!
It`s the wow factor I think!!Debt Free Jan 2010!(Be happy) the state of your life is nothing more than the state of your mind! X:j0 -

I have definitely found that. People email me asking what I can do for £20 delivered, which tbh is not a lot all things consdered. It costs £5 delivery alone. If I used only premium brands of clothing I wouldn't be able to offer anything in this budget without making a loss or breaking even. I'm getting to the point where I don't like working for nothing as I did in the early days! So by using Asda/Matalan, etc I am able to reach the people with that to spend.
There is only one thing I won't do and that's use cheap nappies. It's Pampers or Huggies all the way."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
Wow well done Irishgirl!!!
I have to say I have a serious problem with these nappy cakes though... I had NO sleep at all last night as I was tossing and turning in bed thinking about possible designs and trying to work out profit margins, in the end I came downstairs at 6 this morning to stop disturbing OH and to practice, I eventually had an hour and half sleep with DS at 9am this morning.
I have also realised what I was doing wrong, I was looking at your lovely cakes and others online and trying to re-create them for "budget" market and impulse purchases, It's not possible to this and have realised the secret - to have 2 types of nappy cakes - a basic version and then an all singing all dancing deluxe version so this lead me to thinking up double the amount of cakes!!!
My one question now is what do you think is more important to have in a nappy cake - toiletries or clothes??
BTW - here are my impulse bath time mini cakes
It contains
8 x Nappies (cost of 64p)
Johnson's Bath Soap (cost of 22p)
Rubber Duck (cost of 31p)
1 x Muslin Square (cost of £1.00)
Cellophane (approx cost of 12p)
Ribbon (approx cost of 4p)
Total Cost = £2.31
I was thinking about selling these at £3.99 - does that seem acceptable to you?
I also think £3.99 is far too little. I think at least £5!!
Angelkay, as Bella has said. I think orangery colour ribbon should pull it together."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -

I`ve now started taking my Nappy Cake Business more seriously, much to the annoyance of a local competitor who has been established for 4 years and is scared of abit of healthy competition.
Have a website set up with cakes i`ve done for people (mainly family!)over the last couple of months and want to know what the next step is.
Have been speaking with HMRC to sort out issues there, but am very nervous about the whole prospect to be honest.
I`d like to keep it as a local business, as I haven`t got time to be posting cakes out..
Bella especially, how did you go about setting yourself up? As your site is fantastic!Debt Free Jan 2010!(Be happy) the state of your life is nothing more than the state of your mind! X:j0 -

Are the bun cases the silicone cases?? If so I have those and they are really nice colours. In Asda they are also selling a three pack of fleecy baby socks for £1.25. They come in cream or white are plain and don't say george on them. They are the cheapest I've seen and are identical to a pack in Matalan which are also £1.25 but for 2 pairs only. I've bought all of them out of my local Asda :-)0 -

How about doing the lemon ones as unisex?? Or when you do the girls put 2 pink cases in with lemon socks and 2 lemon cases in with pink socks in them.
BTW - Have fun at work - I'm just in from my course - working and learning on the weekend should be made illegal!!!0 -

Well done on all your sales! I used my lemon ones last Easter, with white socks and put one of the little yellow chick decorations on each one...people bought them for Easter gifts for babies that were too small for easter eggs!Cazo1:wave:0
