Hi tashb22, I'm afraid you got a bit mixed up with the posts - the cakes are mine.:)

I wrap them with the "tube" method (just one join at the back) Overlap about an inch on each side and put a bit of tape on bottom to hold and a bit halfway up. I very often remove this bit as when you pull the top together, it tightens it and you don't need anything sticking it together.

this is the bit i cant get done...wrapping :(
what is the tube method please moonpenny?
    thanks

For wrapping the TUBE method -

I use 11 inch cake boards and cut less than a mtr of 80cm wide cello. (measure around cake board and add a bit for overlapping)

On a flat surface overlap the 2 edges and put a bit of tape on bottom and middle to hold (The 80cm width is now the height that will go over your cake.)

Put the tube over cake and loosely put elastic band round top just to hold while you work it.

You need to pull cello about an inch under the board to tape. I stick under the "4 corners" first (back, front, each side) just to even the cello out before taping the rest underneath.

Pull the cake HALFWAY OFF THE EDGE OF THE TABLE  to tape underneath. carry on till you have taped all around it.

I tun my cakes on their side at this point to really stick it down.

Stand cake up and take elastic band off the top.

You can now sort anything out that has moved.

Fasten the top as you normally would.

Found the post from ages ago about wrapping with the "Tube method":)

Oh moonpenny thank you for the TUBE method!! Fantastic description that I will definitely be having a go at this weekend.. sounds simple (she says!!).
I have recently purchased some of the cake boards you all suggested & got myself some cello on a roll (I was paying £1 per meter at florist!) and have had a go at fanning my nappies instead of rolling them - I must admit, I definitely prefer the way they look. Q - Do you fill the middle of the fanned nappies with anything? I found I've used loads of nappies which could get expensive!

Until now I've only done nappies for friends/family but I am making this one to sell so shall be uploading a pic for your honest opinions soon please ladies!

So happy I've found this forum! :T

I haven't been on here for ages but thought I would come and post some pictures of recent nappy cakes that I have done...

    2012-08-03132840.jpg

This one was for a friend so i took it round without wrapping it. I used an empty yankee candle jar in the top and then filled it with fresh gerberas.

    2012-09-10235245.jpg

This is a boy's dinosaur themed one that I did for a friend to give to her friend.

    2012-09-10235258.jpg

This one was for the same friend for her to give to a different friend. She wanted non gender specific so i just went bit mad with colour! Just realised that this pic is before i put the ribbon on so you can see that the layers are secured with string!
