    Hi!

Thanks for your reply cupcake queen!

It is for one of these cakes:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/76719769@N02/6981809721/

The quote was £7.80 inc VAT from Yodel through parcel2go. Is this reasonable? Seems rather alot. Its 48hr delivery too from monday to wednesday. So this is what I have quoted the lady :/

I have got some boxes from the supermarket just in case (should have done this before anyway!) Can you put 2 boxes together to make one bigger box as well? and is there anywhere i can get this way up tape fast? XXXX

I estimated the weight as no more than 3kg? How do you find out the weight at home by the way? plus room for the cello wrapping etc X There are approx 22 nappies and the height i measured as 50cm to allow for cello and 30cm width.

I used Yodel for my postal order for a 3 tier and it was £7.80.

    Evening everyone!

Just curious how everyone takes payment for cakes when sold through Facebook etc and have to be posted out.
Do you ask for Postal Orders, Paypal, cheques etc?

I sell my cakes word of mouth and have never posted any out but it's worth knowing just in case.

Well done to all who have had sales recently.

    Hi
I use Yodel and they are very good, never had one problem with them, Myhermes are rubbish and take 5 days to deliver and you are only covered for £20 compensation.
If you are running a business and intend to do it properly then you may want to think about having your boxes made, when you quote for delivery you need to include your packaging costs, the weight is fine at 3kg and here is a link for parcel tape http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WAY-UP-ADHESIVE-TAPE-RED-WHITE-48MMX66M-X-1-/310348735161?pt=UK_Packaging_Materials&hash=item484239e2b9 if you buy tonight I am sure they will get it to you for Tuesday if you ask them, make sure you use the tape though as you can see from my box I apply it twice.
    Janey :)

  • I've never had a problem with myHermes and have used them several times on eBay and have had feedback saying that items were delivered quickly BUT I'd agree, they do quote up to 5 days which isn't always ideal and will be looking at any others that you have all mentioned. I will definitely be looking at getting boxes like yours Janey if/when things pick up, simply can't afford the minimum order at the moment. I really wish I could afford them as they look really good.

Moonpenny, I use PayPal. Most people seem to have it now but if they are local people I try and get cash or cheque as PayPal charges.

  • no order yet but I am at least more prepared!

i know I really need to quote the packaging costs too.....but the boxes are free from the supermarket for the moment.....I have ordered some tape thankyou Janey :)

cupcake queen, have any of your customers been put off by the delivery charges? Since i have not heard anything i fear the lady has been put off :(

Is roughly just under £10 for delivery normal?????
  • also girls, i also make bouquets and want to have a go at making some in those lovely little buckets/baskets!

do you wrap florist tape round the items and use florist wire for stalks? or just sort of stuff the itms in the buckets? just wondering how to put them in/how they stay in xxx

and what is a good price/size for the galvanised buckets? xxx

For cuddly toys I find TK MAXX and Home Bargains quite good, the ones near me often stock RUSS Baby toys which are lovely and only about £2.99 each.

If i'm really stuck for getting a cuddly toy in the right colour, which I was recently as I needed a lemon one, I use comfort blankets with the wee soft toy attached. I find they work really well especially on the the top of three tier cakes as there isnt much space.

Dunelm Mill have lovely fleece baby blankets for £2.49.

    Zangels hun,

Hike those Likes is ace, you dont pay for it, its just a page really but you can FREELY advertise on there :) they also have "event" on FB like share your wares where you post pics of your goods and the price etc :) that was on from 8pm till 10pm last night! same goes for UK Mums who make, and the supermums craft fair. Type them all in in the search box on FB hun XXXX

Thankyou for the advice on soft toys, today I picked up a peter rabbit rattle and a miffy rattle from sainsburys taking the risk of paying more and hoping to make some gorgeous cakes with them :) XXX
