New Nappy Cake

Happy new year everyone. Haven't been on her for a few weeks as we have just moved house, so haven't had much time for making any cakes, although I did sell a 1 tier and 2 of my tiny £6.50 ones a couple of weeks before Christmas. Just started doing some major promoting on my Facebook page and have generated quite a bit more interest and had my first postal order from it - yikes! We have got loads of boxes from the move so I am hoping that they are the right size! Luckily, she doesn't want it until the end of Jan too so got plenty of time to get sorted as all of my supplies are in boxes in the spare room. Really going to go for it this year, as I'm a full time stay at home Mum and want to do this as a proper business.0

Evening ladies! Hi irlrip, moonpenny & sweetpea32
Been into town today and my local clintons had some me to you Xmas teddies on sale for £2.49 normal price £9.99!! They have a little Xmas tshirt on but it's easily removed. Fantastic bargain! I bought 6! Also lots of gift boxes from £1 should be a fiver! ( bought for pamper cakes) coordinating tissue paper 37p, sets of curling ribbon 50p, and 2m wired ribbons 50p.
If your looking for supplies it's worth a journey.
I too am a sahm and am going to really get my teeth into creating a fab business this year if my 14 mth old lets me! Going to advertise advertise advertise!
I am going to take some cards and ask to display them in local businesses also been asking if I can display one in my local sure start centre - just waiting for her to ring me back.
How do you advertise or do you rely on word of mouth and repeat customers?0 -

One large company used to use me regularly for a couple of years, and used to buy a 3 tier after having a collection for someone going on maternity leave .... although I've since heard that someone internally is now making them.
You'll find that once someone has bought one, others will see them and remember you when they know that someone is having a baby.
I used to work at childrens nursery, so have donated a few neutral ones over the years to their christmas raffle .... had a few orders and great feedback from that. It's amazing just how few people have ever seen them.
I'd keep one made up at home, so everyone that calls round can see it ... lol
It takes a while, but you'll soon start getting the orders in.
Good luckA creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -
Just wanted to thank moonpenny for the link - its perfect thanks

Also have just come across an eBay seller by accident - Packaging_monkey - feedback looks fab
Has anyone used them?
Hope everyone is busy!0 -

Thinking of attempting to make a nappy cake for my sister, baby is due early July so plenty of time yet and want to find out the sex first so I can add some colour!
A couple of questions really, sorry if this seems a bit dim of me but my mum has said about Terry nappies, from a search on google I see that they are re usable nappies? Are these suitable to make a nappy cake with? I'd like to help her save money if possible.
Do they do different sizes or are they all one size?
Also, she has bottles and bath stuff so I don't need to put those in. I don't know what I should put in though?
Like I said, I want to save her money so if anyone has any ideas that might help, I'd really appreciate them!!0 -
Hi rachel90,
I have never used "real" nappies in cakes simply because of the "cost" issue.
They are so expensive and in my opinion, the mums who want to use them probably have decided on a particular brand/make etc. Obviously, as the cake is for your sister you would have "inside knowledge" on what brand she would prefer.
The bulk would probably make a much bigger cake too.
I think the majority of mums would use disposable nappies at some point.
As for what to put in the cake - anything and everything!0 -
Thanks moonpenny,
Mum suggested the terry nappies because she used them on us and she knew of loads of babies having rashes and being irritated by the disposable ones.
I will have to find out what she would prefer though!
Her friends mum actually makes nappy cakes for a living but uses extremely cheap things to put in and so I obviously don't want to do that for my sister! I'm happy to spend a bit of money in order to save her money basically!!0
