LOL, I've spent a fortune, despite my best efforts to stop spending, I just can't help myself when I see bargains. I have made a facebook page for mine but not ventured into an actual website. I have a website for my photography which I made myself from a Mr Site website in a box which are easy to do and costs around £35 a year. I might look into doing one of those again for my cakes.0 -

Matalan have blue hedgehog blankets, they are RRP £4, but marked up at £3 in the sale, however they go through the till at £1!!! I was only buying one for a friend, but grabbed some more as at that price they are fab!!
I've ordered a few of the hedgehog blankets on line as they were £1. I wish Matalans would stop having sales as just can't resist such bargains even though I have a mountain of blue blankets already living underneath my little girl's cot!!0 -
Oh lorry, Ive just ordered some hedgehog blankets too - thanks OP!
£12 for 10 blankets isn't at all bad!
Just need pink now - got a load of the blue monkey hooded blankets last time! LoL

Hi all, thank you for all your help. Here is my very first attempt at a nappy cake. I will get proper florist ribbon, but this gives an idea of how it will look finished. I ditched the idea of the bigger teddies (and gave them to my own kids much to their delight!) and got this one very small holding a comfort blanket but it was in an awkward place, not at one edge and not in the middle so I ended up stuffing most of it inside - has anyone got any suggestions for making this look better? It doesn't drape well at all over the outside of the cake. I've crammed this with goodies as it is for a colleague I am really good friends with. What do people think? Do you think I should put the feed wheel underneath the cake to hide it too? Are the sock roses ok, or do they look a bit weird? Any comments gratefully received. I LOVED putting it together, so much fun and could be quite addictive. Looking forward to doing the second one!!
Thanks so much everyone your posts have been so helpful I've been busy reading most of this and the original thread for ideas.0 -
Hi mumof2luvvlies
Well done! I think you have done a nice job especially for a first go. I'm sure your friend will love it.:T
I'm afraid it's just trial and error where you put things etc, you just have to experiment a bit untill you are happy with "your" look.
About the Comfort Blanket - I think they are quite easy to use if it is a teddy or something holding a blanket but Blankies with just a head are a nightmare to place.
I have a pic of one I made ages ago for a friend, with the blanket hanging down (one corner of it is brought up under the arm) I think they look nice draped to one side. Mind you, I don't always like everything symetrical!0 -
Mumof2luvvlies, I think it's a lovely cake and yes, they are addictive. I have only been making them for a couple of months, but am so addictive. My children's bedrooms are becoming store rooms for my cakes!
Moonpenny, that is a gorgeous cake, as always. Lovely colours. What is the ruffled thing at the front as it looks really effective?0 -
Thanks! Sweetpea32
it's just a cream Muslin ruffled up. I think I shoudn't have had so much of it showing at the front as it is a bit "front heavy"0 -
Hi Rusty
Do you know if the blue star blankets are going through cheaper too? they are £3 online.
On subject of toys (not wholesale) I have never known such a poor offering in the shops and everything is too big or far too expensive.
Hi Moonpenny - sorry but the only blue blankets they had in my local one were the hedgehog ones and some lovely soft fluffy blue ones for £6. If you wanted some hedgehog ones I can pick you some up and post them?
Love your cream and white cake, love the ruffled muslin effect!!
I have made one a single tier this morning, picked up some cute little tigger sandals from matalan yesterday. will try get pics later onRaising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0
