I'm making my first two for colleagues and I've just bought some rather large teddies as they were cheap in Mothercare. I wondered what size teddies people use, or if you have any tips for supporting bigger teddies. I was going to do 3 tier cakes, but am now thinking it may be better to do wider based 2 tier. Any tips gratefully received and many thanks in advance xx
Hi
I have been running my own nappy cake business for quite a while now so I have been able to source products wholesale which has been really helpful, I still use the high street biggies though as now and again when they have the sales I stock up on baby vests, socks etc. With regards to the larger soft toys, personally for me I don't like to use them so have to agree with Liz, the large toys can be ok for the single nappy cakes but I prefer soft toys around 17cms in size for the 2 tier and 3 tier cakes, I like to keep my cakes in proportion as I think they look more realistic for eg: large bottom tier, medium middle and the smaller tier at the top. I use the 12 inch silver cake boards. With the baby blanket wrapped around the nappy's on the lower tier nearly all the silver board is covered.
I use 22 pampers nappy's in the single, 32 in the 2 tier and around 40 nappy's in the 3 tier. Hope this helps.
Regards

I just wondered how many nappy cakes everyone tends to sell on average in a month?
I am hoping that eventually I will get more than one or two orders per month and looking at some of the pictures of the gorgeous nappy cakes on this thread I can imagine most of the regular posters probably get a lot of requests!0 -
Hi Liz
I use 2 local ones in Sheffield for soft toys and baby products, unfortunately they don't have websites, what are you trying to source? maybe I can help........
Janey
Thanks Janey!
I'm trying to source keel newborn toys! Love the light colour of the ones you use! Might sound odd but I don't like them to be to dark!xDebt Free Jan 2010!(Be happy) the state of your life is nothing more than the state of your mind! X:j0 -

Hi Luabel
Do you have a website? It may help you to get a Facebook page, if you haven't got one I can help if you like....

Hi all, not posted in a while but thought I would come tell you about the blankets.
Matalan have blue hedgehog blankets, they are RRP £4, but marked up at £3 in the sale, however they go through the till at £1!!! I was only buying one for a friend, but grabbed some more as at that price they are fab!!
I am also on the look out for Keel toys for newborns!! I applied and got a business account with them but struggled to work out the prices from the info they send you!! I also managed to get a business account with a wholesaler up here but not had a chance to get in there yet to look (mainly teddies, cards and gift wrap) So if anyone can send me a PM with info about Keel toys I would really appreciate it as I am redoing all of my cakes once the bairn starts school full time in september!!Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
Hi Rusty
Do you know if the blue star blankets are going through cheaper too? they are £3 online.
On subject of toys (not wholesale) I have never known such a poor offering in the shops and everything is too big or far too expensive.0 -
Never mind rusty!
Just had a look at Matalan website and the blue star blankets have gone. (I would have had to order online)
Probably just as well as I am trying not to spend anyway! :rotfl:0
