Hi becs! Good to see you are still around. Gorgeous cakes as usual!

sparklejob - I have sold 2 x 2 tier cakes to 1 person for twins but of course it costs more to buy them that way. (Keep saying I will make some twin cakes up but nobody has asked for one yet so I keep putting it on the back burner).

I would stick to your prices, some people just expect you to do them for nothing. Would they walk into a Florist shop and expect to buy a hand tied boquet for the price of a bunch of flowers? Same principle!

Welcome linzi_h, You could make a cake as cheap or as dear as you like but I would only put stuff in that was useful and good quality otherwise it's a waste of money. Rather then £ stores etc, the Supermarkets have really nice quality stuff at reasonable prices.

    Afternoon!!

Spent the afternoon sorting out public liability insurance for my Nappy Cakes.. Got a good deal in the end with Direct Line!!

With the `where there`s blame, theres a claim` culture thats going on at the moment, the thought of someone suing me forced me into it! Even if I am only a little business its better to be safe than sorry!
It also covers me for craft fairs too which i thought was quite good!

If any of you ladies are selling your cakes without it and want some advice on getting it.. PM me your email address and i`ll point you in the right direction x

oh dear, the lady who was turning her nose up at prices has now decided that she wants a pink pram and a blue truck/train all for £40.This is going to be a really tight budget.I think I should be ok with the pram but haven't actually ventured to make a sample train or even truck so would be grateful of and tips.Really not sure whether it can be done for £20 either. All advice welcome!!!! Thankyou x

Thanks :) I didn't even think of the supermarkets to be honest! I will probably attempt to make a small 2 tier one - is there a certain amount of nappies that you need for them? Is a budget of around £10 unrealistic too?

I've got 8 of them, LOL!
  • Hello and WOW! I love all these nappy cakes. You are all such talented people and you must spend ages on them. I'm making my first two for colleagues and I've just bought some rather large teddies as they were cheap in Mothercare. I wondered what size teddies people use, or if you have any tips for supporting bigger teddies. I was going to do 3 tier cakes, but am now thinking it may be better to do wider based 2 tier. Any tips gratefully received and many thanks in advance xx

    Hi there and welcome!

I dont know about the others, but I cannot get on with big teddies on cakes, unless they are on one tier cakes...

I personally usually use teddies that are really no more than about 8 inches..

Could you perhaps do a one tier with the teddy on the top and some sock roses around it?

Ages, since I posted on here but I still look in all the time. I love the cake and the way everything seems to be linked in, from the monkey, booties and matching blanket. I am just making them for family and friends as I got nowhere with displaying one in my daughters shop...just did not seem to be the interest there. I need to do a blue one for my daughter's friend but plenty time to look for bits and pieces.
