Hi everyone, I havent been on here for ages, I only make nappy cakes for friends and family, but now I have been asked to make one for a friend to give to a friend, she wants a 3 tier one , the problem is I dont know how much to charge or what to put in it, normally I would spend about £40 on stuff to put in it but is that too much to charge??? please help :-)0

I use about 30 nappies on a 3 tier, however I only use 4 bottles of Johnson's in my contents so you may need less if you're putting lots in.
Clair-123 £40 is alot to spend on "contents" and you would want to mae a profit on top. I would have a look at quite a few of the nappy cake websites and look at what's in them, most probably have about £10-£20 cost in them. It's different if you're doing it for a friend as a gift and not wanting to make money, I spent £50 on bits for my friend's one as a gift. My mum also asked me to do one for her for a member of staff she had that was only 18 and no money, his girlfriend was pg so she went to asda and bought half the shop and then asked me to put it all in a nappy cake! That had to be a 4 tier one as she had so many clothes and toileteries I couldn't physically get it into a 3 tier!0 -
Hi
re swirling method-I use an empty Cadbury's Roses round tin and "line" it with nappies until it's nearly filled up (like you would line a charlotte tin) then I put 2 or 3 rolled into the centre to fill it up. I tie string or curling ribbon around the nappies which are slightly above the edge of the tin, turn it out and slide the string down so it's holding the middle of the outside edge of the nappy cake.
Don't know if that makes sense - much easier to just do it than explain it!
I also have a small tupperware container for my 2nd layer.

oops forgot to say the above method uses 22 nappies in the Roses tin and 16-18 in the smaller top layer.

lastminutej - like you I use a round plastic cake box for my swirling. place all nappies around inside edge (you can space and tidy them later I put a "dummy" card tube in the middle.
Put large elastic band around container and tip upside down. As your sliding nappies out, roll the elastic down over them. When i've spaced and tidied them up I tie curling ribbon around and remove elastic band.
I put a paper tube inside all my cakes and contents go inside this.
I am still using rolled method for most of my cakes but want to go over to this as it is much quicker.0 -

Been following the instructions for swirling by becs and yourself (big thanks), using my sons nappies. Got the hang of it very quickly but could only fit about 12 in a roses tin?! What size nappies do you use?

Hi Snookles
I use pampers size 3. When i re-read my explanation it isn't as clear as i wanted to make it. I start by putting one nappy (on its side) against the inside edge of the tin, then I place the next one so that part of it is on top of the first one (overlapping, if you see what I mean) ...and so on.. so in effect I am lining the tin with nappies and end up getting closer to the middle, when I can't stuff any more in on their side I put in the one I've rolled - to fill the gap but I think Moonpenny's way of doing it by putting in a dummy tube is probably better and makes for a stronger cake. I don't always put things (other than nappies) inside.
I'm amazed at how difficult it is to describe a really easy process without making it sound far more complicated!
I don't think I can post photos yet otherwise I would and I'm sure it would be much clearer.
Not sure why you are only getting 12 in a tin but hope the above helps.0 -
Good Afternoon Ladies
Hope you're all well?
Some lovely cakes made recently!
I've been busy today making some Easter gifts and another nappy cake for a baby boy. The toy on top I managed to get is suitable from birth and I didn't realise until I got it home that it rattles too! It's lovely and soft.
Anyway, hope you're all well and the pictures of my makes can be seen on my blog, which you can find by clicking on my user name. (seeing as we can't put links up to our blogs anymore!)

Hope this is a bit clearer for "swirling"
On this one, I have put the thick end of nappy in the middle as it makes the outside edge smoother.
I put a tube in the middle but you could carry on adding more nappies or put 1 or 2 rolled ones in the middle.
