Pricing is always my pet hate too Sally. I always feel that I'm charging too much. You couldn't buy my ingredients for less than £40 and I had decided to charge £50. It's only recently having seen so many cakes with far less ingredient spend on them for £55 I decided to bite the bullet and charge that! Soeffectively they are paying me £15 per cake to make it up and wrap it which I think is a fair price for an hours work.

Oh wow Becs, your new cakes are a whole new level! Looking at taking this to the next stage for me as I've just gone self employed so need to try and boost my earnings.

On that note, now you're becoming Mrs Nappy Cake (lol). Becs if you ever decide to go for a full blown website I've just set up my own design company, and we do websites. Lol. Gimme a shout if you want one :)

Thanks Kr15snw, I do already have a website but it's one my hubby did for me in 30 minutes the night before I did a posh show, I wanted a site so I could take card payments at the show so put them through online. The pictures are all the old ones and old designs and pricing. It is absolutely awful so I don't promote it but hubby has said we will get it sorted and fully "modernised" by April as want to register the business and everything then. I'm still at the stage where I've not made any profit as such because I've been buying new stock and upgrading everything. So come april I want to be in a position to advertise properly and register it as a business.

Hello to everyone, I haven't posted on here in absolutely ages! Nice to see some old faces around still and loads of newbies with some great cakes too.
Well I've been updating my style and design and deciding on how to go with the cakes, STILL haven't updated the website yet as DH hasn't sorted it for me yet so it looks total rubbish still. However I have got round to redoing my facebook page for them tonight, so for any old faces who would like to see them they're here

    Welcome back....your cakes look amazing:)

  • Hey,
I have just started making up my own nappy cakes (which I am really enjoying doing) after finding out about them on here. I normally do baby baskets, which include things for mum and baby but now moving onto the cakes, which I will be making up with goodies for baby and mum and maybe some for dad too. Will hopefully get some pics on here soon when they are done :-).
Ive just been to my local pound shop and have bought some lovely Humphreys Corner baby stuff which includes baby bottle, cup, plate, bowl and dummies and they were all a £1 each! Bargain me thinks! Anyway they had them in pink and blue. Also in b&m's they had some baby plastic plates (pink and blue) for 39p each or 3 for a £1! Which come in handy for me as I use them as the base for my smaller nappy cakes! Also home bargains have some nice pink and blue baby feeding cloths(set of 3) in at the minute which cost around £1.40 and they also have some baby towels for £2.49 each! Hope this helps some of you :-).
Great cakes btw! Hopefully mine can look that good!

  • Hi all i haven't been on for so long. It has been so long i have had my own liitle man to buy nappies for.
Business has recently started to pick up again and i have been contacted by someone to supply them with my gifts :j I am currently looking for a wholesaler that doesn't have a min spend, any ideas?

Becs i love your cakes, i wish i could charge more for mine but people don't want to spend much in my neck of the woods. I know your goods are more high end though aren't they becs so you have to charge more This is my facebook page. My 3 tiers are only £25 to £30 I have got to start looking for craft fairs to attend i bet i have missed all the easter ones now.
:)Mummy to 2 wonderful boys :)

Thanks Louby-Lou-Lou. I think your cakes are lovely and very good value. I chose to do the more high end as no one else seemed to be doing that so it was just my way of making it easier for myself really in not having to compete with everyone else! It is expensive though and does require a lot of outlay.

    Hi Becs

I agree, the outlay is very expensive, especially if you're using better quality items, such as you use - the blankets look lovely by the way and I love your toys too!

I sometimes think I've not charged enough, but then I think if I over-charge it might lose me the sale, so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, as the saying goes - LOL.

It's the same for the towel cakes I make, I like to use good quality towels and by the time I've used 2 x Bath, 2 x Hand, and 2 x washcloths, it soon adds up!
